Took the family up to lake Roberts for the weekend. First of all the forecast was said to be mid 80s and it was well over 96. We are a resilient family so we stuck it out. Evenings were down in the 60s great for camp fire at Mesa campgrounds.

The fishing was terrible if you don’t have a boat don’t bother, everything off the shore line is crowded with floating brush and lots of seaweed or grass. Lost 4 very expensive spinners trying to catch trout. Lake definitely needs to be dredged so visitors can enjoy fishing without snagging every cast.

Peaceful, lovely spot. I'm sure the heat was keeping people away, as there were only two other people (boat fishers) there besides us, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The beautiful clouds made great pictures on the serene lake as we watched a mother duck scoot her young ducklings around.

Had a wonderful time tooling around the lake in our little fishing boat. This is a very understated lovely area that is serene and peaceful. Caught a couple of delicious trout and there was barely anyone on the lake! Had the whole place to ourselves!

Lots of parking, boat ramp, beautiful picnic areas, and multiple campgrounds including one with RV hookups. The community of Lake Roberts has a couple of places with accommodations (Lake Roberts Motel and Lake Roberts Cabins and General Store). Very beautiful area in the mountains!

We came to Pino Altos/Silver City area to relax and "get off the grid" so to speak.
It's about a 45 minute drive from Pinos Altos through the Gila Wilderness and just simply gorgeous. Great hiking trails, and camping areas as you drive out to Lake Roberts (if you turned veer left instead of right at the fork, you would head out to the Gila Cliff Dwellings). We went out 2 days fishing, and the fishing is wonderful. You can take a boat, fish off the dock, or at various areas around the shoreline. There is no swimming or wading allowed. We picked up our fishing license at the Walmart in Silver City before heading to the lake. The temperature was about 38 degrees when we started, but warmed up quickly and was gorgeous. With things being closed to due to CoVID, make sure that you fill up on gas and have all of the essentials before heading out- there are no services......but take a picnic lunch and stay out all day!

Stop by the Arrastra Historic Site just a little ways past the Bear Creek Cabins in Pinos Altos on your way out- it's worth the 10-15 minute detour to see a little of the area's history.

If seeking a quiet and relaxing place, Lake Roberts, NM. We stayed at the Cabins at Lake Roberts. What a cozy cabin! Very small but efficient. If you want a challenge in driving, take Highway 15. It has more curves and switchbacks than one desires.

Lake Roberts is small but pretty and easily accessible. You probably will encounter anglers seated in the path that surrounds the water. Very heavily used, since there is so little open water in the area.

We just happened on to this lake by chance. We were exploring Silver City for first time and had our fishing stuff with us. Granddaughter wanted to fish. That is what we do. Ha We went over the mountain in 24 foot RV. Probably not the best idea. We were going for time and distance (Shorter). Worst winding road I have been on. When we left we went around the other way and it was quicker and better drive. LOTs of traffic on road coming from Lake area. Indian ruins there also. Maybe traffic from there. Camp spots were very nice. No hookups but some Campgrounds may have those. Do some research and call ahead. Granddaughter caught a good bass on worms. Nice fishing area through what looked like a rain forest. Ha All in All, great camping. Camp host was super great. May have left over wood if you do not have any. Wood is easy to pick up along road outside of camping area. Pick up some wood before you get set up from up the road is good idea. $10.00 to camp $5.00 if Access Card. Bathrooms there, no showers. Very clean and nice camp areas.

Lake Roberts is a man-made lake in the Gila National Forest along NM35, about 20 miles southeast of Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. We visited the lake while driving the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway. It's a pretty lake surrounded by pine trees, and has campgrounds and a picnic area. We saw people fishing and there was at least one wheelchair-accessible fishing pier (license required). The lake is stocked with trout in cool months and has channel catfish and small mouth bass in warm months. Good for bird watching too; we saw several different waterfowl. Restrooms are available. At the northwest end of the lake there is a commercial business that rents cabins and a small convenience store.

Very nice ride to get here. It is a good place to fish I understand but we weren't fishing on this trip. There are picnic tables, and bathrooms and a place to clean fish with a boat ramp. No swimming or wading.

We camped there overnight in January. Only one other camper in the park. Lots of electric sites - so we could run the heater during the night. Peaceful and lovely. Lots of ducks on the lake in the morning and we spotted a wonderful Bald Eagle - perched in a tree.
