Visited the Gila Cliff dwellings site in late September, when temperature was about 90F. We had hoped it would be cooler that time of year, but lucked out that it was cloudy so heat was not so intense. Ensure you tank up on water at...More

The drive took about 2 hours, through pine forest and other gorgeous scenery. We even saw a bear from our car! But these cliff dwellings are spectacular, magical, and the group tour led by one of the park rangers truly made history come alive.

Great scenic drive from Silver City. Only about a mile hike to the cliff dwelling. Be sure and stop at the ranger station before going up to the cliff parking and watch the short film on the history. The park rangers we wonderful!

Worth taking a hike to the cliff dwellings. Difficult for disabled person but take your time and it is worth the pain and discomfort. Just breathtaking. The history and cultural knowledge to experience is worth fitting this into your trip.

This is a beautiful national forest. You actually get to hike into the cliff dwellings and take in the view. It is really cool and educational.

The drive up through the Gila National Forest was beautiful, but if you don’t have experience driving on winding mountain roads, this could be a daunting drive. Once at the visitors center, be sure and see the museum inside. The hike to the cliff dwellings...More

I do not know anything about the pet policy. They do have a nice trail leading to the dwellings. There are benches several places to take a break. There are a few steps here and there, but not a ladder.

You can take the puppy with you but he will not be allowed on the historic trail or near the dwellings. Someone will need to stay with the puppy in the parking lot.
