About
Kings County Distillery is New York City's premier craft distillery and among the most acclaimed small distilleries in the United States. Focused exclusively on whiskeys, Kings County has made a name for its bourbon, peated bourbon, rye and other creative whiskeys. We only distill whiskey for our label and we never sell whiskey made from any other source.

If you’ve been to one distillery this informative tour will likely sound very familiar. The distillery is located next to Wegmans supermarket and has a small enclosed bar on the premises. They have a good sized souvenir shop selling whiskeys and shirts, etc. The tour isn’t too memorable but nice option to check out in Brooklyn. Regular tour costs about $16 a person but they have a longer more comprehensive tour that’s a bit more money. Bring snacks as there is no food to munch on.

My husband and I came out from California to do the “Top Shelf” tour at King’s County Distillery after trying their bourbon at a local shop in SF. It was an awesome experience. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and we learned a lot. The grounds are unique and the bar in the castle had great drinks. Highly recommend checking it out!

Did a virtual tasting as a gift for my significant other, Devin Ershow was our host and he was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and made us feel extremely comfortable. I would 10/10 recommend the virtual tasting if you can! It’s a fun two hour experience. Thank you Devin!!!!

Well to be honest I was on a field trip to check out the new Wegman supermarket. Checking Google Maps I noticed Kings County Distillery was nearby which required a visit. We were too early for a tour but we've had tours of distilleries before. So we wound up in their bar/shop which was empty, actually not surprising since it was early. There was one person working there and he barely got a "hello" out. Asked, you want a drink? I said no, I'd like to buy some product and he hands me a tiny menu of spirits they make and went back to his cell phone. Mind you a 375 ml bottle of their good stuff runs $55, not inexpensive. So I bought my bottle of rye and he goes right back to the cell phone. No attempt to engage a customer or ask if we had any questions or maybe give a small taste which could have produced a larger sale. I think this is a training issue, management??

Prior to our visit to Brooklyn we had followed, with interest, the Sky TV programme 'Moonshiners'. We were keen to learn more about the people carrying the tradition beyond prohibition to produce legal liquer.

We were delighted to discover that Kings County Distillery were doing just that, and that tours were available on Saturday afternoons during the time of our stay in Brooklyn.

We downloaded the details, but soon found that this place was not as easy to locate as suggested - even the locals couldn't help! It seemed a VERY long walk from the nearest subway station in the baking heat of a July afternoon, but we assumed that we would gain some respite once at our destination from the air conditioning inside the Boatyard building.

WRONG - there is no air conditioning. The building is very basic as is the production process - no hi-tech mass production here. For the benefit of visitors with mobility problems it should be noted that there are several sets of stairs to climb and very limited seating available once reaching the top. As far as I am aware, there is not a lift.

My first impression was that the building was dirty. My second impression was that we were robbed............we were aware that a tour is $8 each, but didn't expect that our 8 year old son would also be charged $8. He was not at all interested in a tour, but had to tag along with us obviously. Incidentally, the $8 includes barely more than a thimble full 'taster' in the gift shop at the end of the tour - clearly not appropriate (or legal) for an 8 year old! However, having walked so far to get there, we paid up, and the tour began.

The tour lasted approx 45 minutes, and involved lengthy periods of standing, sometimes outside in the baking sun of the 'garden', much stair climbing, and a great deal of talk from the guide. In my opinion he was on an ego trip - his commentary was repetative and boastful. Our fellow visitors appeared bored as there was little to see (unless you like a patch of earth, 5 stills and a room full of small barrels), I suspect that what the majority of us wanted to see was a chair to sit on!

Of course, the tour concludes in the gift shop where the 'taster' is offered (lemonade alternative/addition) and one feels slightly pressured to buy. However, this is rather expensive and I saw few people make a purchase. We did buy though, as we wanted to purchase gifts. We paid $80 for 2 smallish bottles of bourbon, and $70 for a boxed set of 3 smaller bottles.

Thankfully, as we reached the main road, we found a bus stop and were able to use our Metro card to get back to the hotel again, saving us the long walk back to the subway.

Would I go again.....nope!

Stumbled across Kings County while looking for new places to try when visiting Brooklyn. This place was great! Not a structured as other distillery tours I’ve done, but in many ways that made it better. Leah the Tour Manager was our guide and she was fantastic. We went at an odd time so it was just us and a local couple so she really tailored it to our interests and experience.

We started in the Boozeum area and Leah took us through the history of Whiskey, talked really interesting facts and how it’s part of American history, and the distillery itself. The distillery itself is small so you can really see the process and she had samples of the product at each stage. The tour ends up in the tasting room where you can try some amazing whiskeys. There’s also a bar at the entrance to the Navy Yard where the tours begin and after you can try different cocktails.

Kings County is great and not to be missed.

We really enjoyed the tour of the Distillery. Has a home-town, old, authentic feel about the place, surrounded by newer modern buildings and businesses.

Bit confusing to know where to meet ahead of the tour, but we figured it out.

The tour guide was passionate and we learned a lot about the history of whiskey in both the US and Brooklyn. We tried almost all their varieties and it's top notch stuff.

The bar has dim lighting and a great cocktail menu. Worth a stop after the tour.

Go and check this out if you want a fun activity on a weekend day. The tour itself doesn't allow you to walk around the distillery (just view it from an observation space) but the mini tasting was great and the history behind whiskey is interesting! The space is historic and cool to see nonetheless, and the area where the barrels sit is very beautiful. Wish the distillery tour portion was a bit more interactive but worth checking out if you are whiskey fans.

This was a really stellar program with an engaging tour guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the distillery and history of whiskey. Not a whiskey drinker myself usually, but I highly recommend. So great to learn and support a local business.

What a surprise this turned out to be. While I wasn't sure what to expect, the tour was well worth the time we spent there. The surprising aspect of the tour was the extremey knowledgeable tour guide - Lisa (I believe) who shared an indepth history of whiskey, distilling in New York, and then the distilling process itself once we walked down to the distillery.

If you're looking for something different, informative, and fun, then I would definitely recommend this experience.
