It's been years that Montague has become a little less local due to big banks, food franchise and real estate offices. I liked it before... when local businesses were the majority.

We love walking Montague and stopping in for a meal or a drink. One of the best areas in Brooklyn for food and drink.

Hidden gems are Lassing and Hennins for great sandwiches and great clearance shoe store on same side of street as Verizon and Mac cosmetics. There is also Chipotle, Five Guys and Haagan Das Ice Cream. If you want a really delicious Vietamese pork sandwich go...More

This is the shopping street for the brownstone heart of Brooklyn Hts.; Atlantic Avenue is nearby and provides more services. Montague is now full of upscale restaurants. The architecture is lovely. One of my favorite parts of the entire city.

This is the shopping and dining center of Bklyn Hgts. Lassen&Henning is a great deli, the super market, St. Ann's Church, all kinds of merchants and shops. There is a lot crammed in only a few blocks.

Shops and eateries for every taste and budget. Now I understand why Brooklyn is considered the first suburb of Manhattan. Just lovely.

Fantastic 9 days in NYC - part 1. (10 Replies)
Probably the best vacation I`ve ever been on. I`m going to break this up in three or four separate reports. Here are the first two days that my wife, 8 yr old daughter and myself spent on our trip. 6/14- Plane leaves Boise at 10am, so we get to the airport about 90 minutes early, maybe grab some coffee and get something to eat before the three hr flight to Minneapolis. We go to a Quiznos to buy some breakfast sandwiches and my wife goes to pay cash and I casually ask her if she grabbed the...More

Must be beginner's luck that you were able to find taxis in the rain. Looking forward to more.

On weekends, when can an N train complete its run fastest? (4 Replies)
You would think an N train could complete a full run of the line during late nights, because fewer people on the train means it can close its doors faster, but I just discovered that the N train actually takes the Montague Street tunnel during late nights instead of crossing the Manhattan Bridge as it does during the day. Although timetables state that it's a longer distance to go via the tunnel than the bridge, can the N train still run faster at night than during the day when it goes the...More

Distances in Brooklyn (11 Replies)
I plan to spend more time in Brooklyn on my next trip than my usual subway to the promenade and walk back over the bridge. I want to take in Fulton's landing and generally explore DUMBO and also plan to visit the Brooklyn Museum. I also plan to check out the TKTS booth while I'm in the borough. My question is this - if i take the subway from midtown to the Brooklyn Museum , is it walkable from there back towards DUMBO and the Montague Street area. Whereabouts is the TKTS booth? Would a...More

It is not walkable from the museum to Dumbo but you can take the 2-3 subway line right outside the museum to Borough hall which will get you to the corner on Montague and Court... from there you can walk to DUMBO if you like or you can take the B25 bus to DUMBO.... to find the TKTS booth... when you get off at Borough Hall look for the long building across the street from Montague, this is the Superior court Building... walk to the right of this building to the rear and across the street you...More
