A tiny bar near our Airbnb in Park Slope Brooklyn. Lots of locals crowded in the the tiny back room with pressed red ceiling. Brain Cloud play every Monday night apparently and they are a treat for the soul. If you are in Brooklyn on a Monday night ... go in at 7pm to hear this band. They say they... More

This is a small bar with a small jazz room tucked out the back. I drank beer from a good selection then the waitress found me a local red on the house. As for the music... I stayed from 7pm until 11 pm and listened to three bands. They do a set and then the next comes on. This place... More

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, for quite some time! A simple live music bar, even if quite small, the beer selection offers many great choices (draft, bottles, and cans). And most of all, a tiny, cosy live music space with an international selection of artists. Depending on the day, you can be in Africa, in Latin America... More

It is crazy that you can walk in off the street, worm your way through the packed bar into the equally packed back room and listen to fantastic music without having to pay a cover charge, but that's what we did last Saturday night at Barbes. It's an unassuming place from the outside--and they're not spending a lot of money... More

Came here to listen to my cousin's friend play, and was really impressed by what this place offers. It's a quaint bar, but the atmosphere was on point. I really enjoyed the music and the service. I got a specialty pisco drink and wish I knew what was in it so I could recreate it, it was VERY good.

So, okay, once they set up the folding chairs in the small back room the competition for seating was fierce. Had a drink . No minimum. No cover. We saw ETHAN LIPTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA who provided an unforgettable evening of brilliant, hilariously unique music and lyrics in an intimate setting. All they did was pass the hat asking for... One of three favorite spots in NYC, after 7 years living here. A wonderful retreat. Owned by a French guy who's very devoted to the bands he hosts, and to providing a venue for all of us to just decompress and be real with each other.

Barbes is a Brooklyn institution that will be remembered in the annals of local history. It is a bar that is run by musicians for the music, rather than the other way around. Yes, the back room is small and cozy (sometimes steamy), but the music is consistently top-notch, even as it is very varied. Look at the online calendar... More

We went to see Steven Wrembley play guitar and play guitar he did and he was great with his quartet. The room is tiny with only a few wooden chairs so most people stand up. It was so steamy and hot in there it was ridiculous while it was snowing outside. Yet, if you know what to expect and you... More
