For a novelty souvenir, my friends and I had a picture taken of us in a cooler that indicates 40 below, ALMOST....and you get a picture for $10, with a certificate indicating you are an official member of the "Alaska 40 Below Club" - What is really nice IN THE PURCHASE is you can access the PHOTO on the computer when you get home and share it with friends!! The cooler is located in the Riverboat Discovery Center.

In order to feel the temperature of 40 below, you enter a freezer set at 40 below in 10 seconds my jeans were beginning to stiffen!

Got to the Steamboat Landing Gift Shop for our Riverboat Discovery Tour where Sarah and I immediately got in line to join the club. He they have a room where the temperature is 40 below. You go in and stay as long as you want/can, and they will snap your picture for $8 bucks so you can have proof that you did it...Total novelty, but fun to do. Note: on your way in scrap some snow and ice off the side walls and put it on your face for that freezing affect...

Given that we don't experience those temperatures in Australia, this was a must do for us. The cold room is located in the Riverboat Discovery Centre, within the large gift shop and to enter is free. If you want to buy a photo of your experience, the cost is $6. So, with anticipation we lined up for the 2 minute experience - only to find, for some reason and disappointingly, that at the time we were there, it was only 10 below. Whether the room had to 'cold down' again after being closed while the riverboat cruises were on, I don't know. Anyway, we still went in and for us, it was still cold. Overall, a good experience, but especially if it was 40 below.

We did it & wanted a photo. There was a camera malfunction so we had to do it a 2nd time. I paid for the photo to be emailed but to my disappointment, they lost it due to a "computer malfunction". I requested a refund via credit card & they charged me again instead of crediting. I gave up.
