About Muzzy's Place Dogsled Adventure - Day Tours
Welcome to Muzzys Place Kennel and Sleddog Adventures. We are a full service sleddog tour company offering short rides, longer rides, half day, and full day trips.Bring your sense of adventure, your underlayers, warm socks and join us. We can provide outerwear to include bunny boots to keep your feet warm, bibs and parka, mushers hat, neck gaiter and mitts as needed. If you have your own gear, that's fine, too. Remember, do not wear cotton because it doesn't wick moisture, keep you warm or isolate you from the cold. Please only wear synthetics, wool or silk layers under the outerwear. We do have hand/foot warmers if needed. You can be as involved as you'd like… we can teach you how to harness and hook up your team if you'd like to help or you can watch and take photos as we hook up the teams. We will run any day provided that the weather is not too cold. Our cutoff and yours might be different, but if properly dressed starting with the first layer, you should be fine to about -30. We have access to beautiful trails right from our kennel and can take you on a fantastic scenic tour as short as 1 hour or as long as you'd like We are ready when you are to take you on an adventure of a lifetime and hope to provide you with enjoyment and stories you can share with your family and friends for a long time to come.

Third year stopping by Muzzy’s to go sledding with Eric, Jan and the dogs for a 2-hour tour. They have a slightly smaller group of dogs now so just had one team for the 3 of us and it worked out wonderfully. Jan joined us on the snow machine so two of us bundled up into the sled and one rode with Jan. Eric is a fountain of information on the trail and let us “mush” the dogs for trips around the frozen lake. Never gets old. Jan is also an incredible photographer – ask for the website to view her amazing photos – she also gave us a referral for a trip to view the polar bears. They are true Alaskans and so willing to share what they know and love. Muzzy’s is truly a family affair.

We recently traveled to Fairbanks in March. Dogsledding was top of my husbands must see/must do list. Mount Aurora Lodge recommended Muzzy's Place to us prior to our arrival in Fairbanks. We looked at every review for any dogsled place we could find before we made our decision. MUZZY'S PLACE WAS GREAT! This was the highlight of our daytime activities for the week! Jan and Eric made us feel at home (they literally welcomed us into their home). They taught us about the dogs, showed us what is involved in their upkeep (feeding, healthcare, etc.), and even shared the history of their dogsledding adventures (races and such). We learned a TON about the history of what dogsledding was and still is in Alaska. This only set the stage for our fantastic adventure... Eric (our guide for the day) made sure we had enough gear to stay warm during our trek. We spent an hour sledding over beautiful Alaskan landscapes. Eric stopped us about 45 minutes in to take a break and he even offered to take some pictures of us with my camera!! He also let me mush the sled back to home base! (YES!! I got to drive the sled!) Jan also took some excellent pictures with her camera that

We decided on the the Mushing school for the day which lasted about 10 hours. We met Eric, co-owner of Muzzy's at his place of residence and business. There we learned about the history and current operation of Muzzy's and information and history of the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest as it pertains to Muzzy's. All very fascinating. Eric educated us on how the dogs are trained for physical conditioning, how to care for the dogs, and how to check for possible physical problems. We met all the dogs and learned about what to do to get a team together for a run. We learned which dogs were optimal for the line and where they should be placed in the line for speed and success. These dogs LOVE to run!! After getting the dogs harnessed, we first went out together on the "schoolbus" sled with a team of 10 dogs. There we learned the mushing lingo, how to operated the equipment, how to command and control your team, what to look for on the trail and your dogs while on a run. After lunch, we went out for the afternoon, each with our own smaller sled and team of dogs. We had beautiful weather and the terrain excellent. It was lots of fun and with the right dogs they can go fast.. Eric is great with his dogs. The dogs are essentially their (Eric and Jan) children. At the time of my visit in March, their plan was to retire this aspect of the business. Although they still loved running, that explained why the running dogs were on the older side and there weren't any new or young dogs on the property. We had a great experience and would highly recommend Muzzy's. Muzzy's does other tours and packages other than Mushing school.

Thank you so much to Eric and Matt for the dog mushing ride and letting us hang out and ask so many questions. Learning about the sport really made the experience that much more amazing. It was also nice meeting Matt Hall who placed 3rd this year in the Yukon Quest as a rookie. We are super excited to track him in next year's race.

Many thanks to Eric and Jan for another wonderful dog sledding adventure! We visited them last year for an hour tour and had so much fun we thought we'd do it again. We wondered if the second time would be as much fun, and it was! The course is beautiful, the dogs are friendly and energetic and Eric and Jan are a wealth of knowledge about dog sledding and the area. We had a great time and highly recommend them. We're already planning our trip for next year and we'll certainly be back to visit them again!!
