We used the shuttle service of 1st Alaska Tours to take us between Healy (near Denali) and Fairbanks. Sure, it is a simple service, but they made it seamless and enjoyable. On the way from Fairbanks to Healy, we rode in a charter bus so there was plenty of room to spread out. The guide, Izzy, provided us with some helpful wildlife safety information. On the way from Healy to Fairbanks, we rode in a 15 passenger van with 4 other people. Our driver and guide, Terri, was a wealth of local knowledge and shared all kinds of information with us during the trek. We also stopped in Nenana to see the historic train station and learn about the Nenana Ice Classic. If you need prompt, efficient transportation between Denali and Fairbanks, 1st Alaska Tours is the best!

There are several companies that offer the Arctic Circle Tour, but by far, 1st Alaska is the best. I picked them based on a review I read and that review was right in every aspect. The Tour Guide who primarily does the Arctic Circle Tour is Josh. He is an outdoorsman who lives off grid on a mountaintop and has all the survival and mechanical skills to survive in a tough environment that Alaska can often times be. This tour takes you out into the wilds of Alaska on the ice road that is the Dalton Highway. You will see the pipeline, incredible vistas, the ice forest, the Yukon River(which we walked on) and hopefully the aurora. Josh provided us a lot of info on all that we saw, but more importantly, he never rushed us from one place to the next. he allowed us to take as many pictures as we wanted before moving on. This became real important as when we got to the Arctic Circle sign, the Aurora made an appearance and Josh was helping all of us with our camera settings. While there, other tours showed up, stayed 10 minutes and left. Josh broke out the hot chocolate and only after we were sufficiently frozen and had gotten all of our pictures, did we leave. Josh kept scanning the sky and stopped 2 more times when the aurora got stronger and started dancing. Again, he gave us all the time in the world to get our pictures. We ended up getting back to our resort at 5:30am instead of 3am but Josh made this tour into something very special that I will never forget.

The last trip of our 15 day land/sea Alaska Adventure was to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights. Our guide, Joe of 1st Alaska Tours, was wonderful. We all met up at the hotel and were driven out of the city to a Yurt, with heat, windows, snacks, hot/cold drinks, all the amenities, to await the arrival of glorious skies! In addition, they provided the services of an Idarod musher who spoke about his dogs - breeds, diet, exercise, training, etc. It was both entertaining and informative. Sadly, as the night went on, not only did it rain but, with the assistance of technology, we found out that there were no lights that night anyway! Joe and the other helpers did their best to keep our hopes and spirits up but when it was confirmed there would be no sighting that night, they drove us all back. The group was great! Not their fault there were none to be seen.

After reading several reviews on 1st Alaska Tours, we were hoping for a good tour and guide. Boy, were we ever surprised with what we experienced on our journey to the Artic Circle! Our expectations were more than met and were exceeded in a most favorable, and memorable fashion! Our guide, Linus, lives off the grid and truly lives on and becomes one with the Alaska land he respects and treasures! Like his name’s sake, Linus was thoughtful, respectful, and delightfully hopeful. We would add resourceful and congenial. We enjoyed the many sights and stops along the way to from the Circle. In lieu of the finding of the "Great Pumpkin" he knew we would see the Northern Lights. He was right! We did see them multiple times back to Fairbanks. His stories, and firsthand knowledge truly made the long journey pleasant and the top of the list of our happy memories of our 2 weeks in Alaska! THANKS 1st Alaska Tours and Linus!

We had to cancel our trip last year due to Covid. Last year we were unable to book accommodations at Chena Hot Springs. So we had signed up for this excursion to take us up there. This year we were able to book 2 nights at Chena Hot Springs. However, we still had this non-refundable excursion that carried over to 2021. So we had 1st Alaska pick us up in Fairbanks on Wednesday and take us back to Fairbanks after midnight. The next two nights we stayed at Chena Hot Springs so we drove ourselves up there by rent a car. It seemed like it was a waste to pay for an excursion when we were going up there ourselves, but that turned out not to be the case. Joe is a Fairbanks native, so we felt perfectly comfortable driving in heavy snow with him.

He gave us tips on driving the road up there, which was very very helpful. On top of that, he regaled us with many stories and was very personable, accommodating, and likable. After the ice museum and dinner, we invited him to join us so he could share more stories with us. He showed us his pictures and let us feel the fur of a few animal pelts. We very much appreciated the homemade mini moose burgers that his wife had prepared for our group. We did not expect dinner to be around 8 PM. The delicious burgers tided us over! He told us how to keep our eyes out for moose. We did not see any on the trip up. We spotted a mom and calf the next day because we knew what to look for! This is well worth the money. If possible, ask for Joe as your guide!

I needed to get to Denali for an overnight and both drivers - Joseph and Justin - were prompt and basically let me talk their ear off. They were simply working the shuttle service but they talked and answered all my questions for the 2.5 hours and were just really nice people. They showed up early for both trips. Great people, great price to get to and from Denali. The people on the phone were also really helpful when I was frantically trying to book passage to Denali.
Thank you 1st Alaska!

Tony was our guide and went above and beyond. Since we were running early he took us to wood crafters store which I’m sure we wouldn’t have otherwise seen - nice stop. After our evening visit to the kennels he drove us past several restaurants and other sites near the hotel that he recommended. He was most helpful and answered any and all questions.

The tour at the kennels was wonderful. It was one of the best parts of our cruise and land tour. The young lady we met with allowed us to pet adult dogs and hold several pups and was most informative. Again this was definite highlight of our vacation. Thank you.

We booked the 1st Alaska Tours Shuttle from our Fairbanks hotel to our hotel in Denali. Door to door service. It was great! Joe was our driver and a long time resident of Fairbanks. He was super nice and knowledgeable and narrated about things along the way. He helped us see Denali Mtn. from Fairbanks and stopped at the Nenana Ice Classic area and told us all about that. We had a coffee/bathroom stop as well. Joe was excellent! He also stopped at the National Park sign and took pictures of us too! So thankful he was part of our first experience in Alaska! Thanks Joe!

We always wanted to go above the Artic Circle and had no idea what to expect. The Dalton highway is truly an experience getting there. It was interesting to see the road that we've seen on television so many times. The weather was extremely warm at the Artic Circle, definitely not what we expected. Our tour guide was very informative and we enjoyed the trip.

Joe was very nice guide. He's very kind and good guide, because he was a lot of explaining everything!!
