I went on a four night, five day trip with Lisbet and her team in January, 2020, and it was an experience I'll be talking about for the rest of my life. First, Lisbet is the real thing, a dedicated parent to the dogs, a long distance musher, and a caretaker to her guests, with plenty of stories to share about her adventures and the overall community of mushers around the Fairbanks area.

Lisbet provided a completely thorough packing list and supplied us with high quality essential items (arctic parka, overmits, down overpants, northern boots) that it wouldn't make sense to own unless you'll be doing this regularly. Despite some pretty extreme cold temperatures (-25F at least), I always felt safe and comfortable (well, I woke up cold one night, but pulled on a wool sweater and was fine).

I also felt confident mushing my team of six dogs as they were well trained and Lisbet provided the guidance and instruction for me to be successful quickly.

For me, the unexpected delights were the beautiful terrain we covered, and the night mushing, which was completely unexpected, and absolutely beautiful. Imagine a dark star filled sky, near silence as the dogs mush across the snow, and a bright headlamp illuminating snowflakes as they fall. It felt otherworldly for someone who doesn't do this every day.

And, of course, it was super cool to get to know the dogs. It was a crash course but by the end of five days I knew the personality of each dog on my team and some of them had warmed to me, which was a great feeling. Vishy, Svid, Hillary, Sluggo, I haven't forgotten you.

To be clear, this is an adventure trip, not a trip to Disneyland, and while it didn't require a super high level of fitness I was tired at times and don't expect a tent in the woods to be the Four Seasons, but if it's adventure you seek, and you love dogs and the wilderness, this is as authentic an experience as you'll get, with great dogs and a warm, experienced, and interesting leader.

We did the Aurora overnight trip in January - and we got to cross off two bucket list "to do" items... (1) mush a team of dogs; and (2) watch the northern lights right from our own private tent. Doing this while camping in comfort was a huge bonus!

What we really appreciated about this trip was the ability to lead our own team of dogs and spend quality time with them. This was not a jump in the sled basket and get ridden around the track experience - you're actually mushing your own team out on beautiful trails. But at the same time, this is done under the watchful eye of an experienced guide who kept things fun and safe. When the trip was done, my muscles were feeling sore, but in a good sort of way.

What I also liked about the experience was the professionalism of the way it was run. Lisbet provided clear written information about what would happen and when and then the trip went down just as she said it would. Arctic Dogs had thought about and planned/coordinated everything in advance of our arrival. This is reassuring to know when planning a $$$ trip to a state many thousands of miles away.

The dogs were great. They appeared happy and well cared for and obviously love, love, love to run. And they also love, love, love visitors, which is super cool. The dogs all got very excited when we arrived (well the ones picked for the trip were even more excited of course). They were all great, but my favorites were Tommy (very sweet) and Svidd (absolutely hilarious goofball that we can't stop talking about).

The camp accommodations were also very nice. Soft comfortable bed in a very warm tent. Lisbet cooked and we had our meals in the larger tent, and the food was great (and I can be a bit of a fussy eater I will admit). The views were incredible, and it was the perfect spot to watch the northern lights from.

Nils helped with logistics, picking us up and then dropping us back off after the trip was done. We came to learn more about Siberian Huskies – but as an added bonus, we also learned from Nils about bear dogs.

To conclude – we came into the trip with the thought of this being a “bucket list” adventure, but we ended up liking it so much that we are now talking about doing one of the longer week long trips.

To conclude: Unforgettable experience and highly recommended!

Only take a trip with Arctic Dog Adventure if you want to end your vacation thinking, “OMG, that was the most badass thing I’ve ever done.” Seriously, everything about this trip was excellent- from the booking process to the actual mushing and camping experience- and that is a direct result of the incredible attention to detail, the professionalism, and the competence shown by Lisbet and her guides. I booked the Denali Dream trip, but due to aggressive moose behavior in the area our trip had to be changed at the last minute to a trip into the White Mountains over more technical trails, and required more camping, which was actually more appealing to me and the rest of the group as well. All five members of our group were traveling solo, and none of us had any mushing experience. We spent most of our first day learning to handle the dogs and to maneuver the sleds, and adjusting to Alaskan life off the grid. The next day we packed our sleds and we were off. Handling and driving the dogs was exhausting, frustrating, sometimes scary, and definitely exciting. But, it was also beautiful, and blissful, and I had moments on the trail when I found myself thinking that if there’s a heaven, it might be pretty close to what I was experiencing right then. For me, this trip was a bucket list item, and it was everything and more that I had hoped it would be. It will set a high bar for all future adventures. I can’t recommend Arctic Dog Adventure Co highly enough.

This was an AMAZING activity! I’m not in shape, so I was huffing and puffing, but it was beautiful! Definitely book this experience if you have even the slightest love for dogs. I got Yksi, and she was pretty mellow, which is good for my pace. Lisbet is a wealth of information about the area and the history of sled dogs, and she’s genuinely interested in her guests’ hometowns, so it was wonderful to have conversation with her. She gave us homemade rhubarb muffins at the top of the ridge and they were to die for! Overall a wonderful value.

Get away from the tour group crowds with this authentic Alaskan experience! We went on the Husky Hike with Lisbet and had a great day meeting the dogs, learning about mushing, and enjoying chatting while on a lovely hike. Starting off, you get to walk around the dog yard and say hello to the huskies, she had nearly 50 when we were there! Then somehow you have to choose just one to be your companion on the hike - definitely the hardest part! But your host will give you suggestions based on the strength of the dog and who hasn't been out for a hike recently. Then they will help you harness them up to a belt leash, I thought this was cool because with their guidance we did this ourselves instead of them doing it for us. Then we hiked about 3 miles (can be shorter) up to a pretty viewpoint of the nearby mountains. It was fun hiking with the dogs who helped pull you up hill! They were so excited to be on the trail. After enjoying some yummy homemade cookies and hot drinks, we headed back to the house and dog yard. We then got to meet their Karelian Bear Dog puppies and learn all about Nils' work with the Wind River bear institute. We loved the whole experience! I would highly recommend this experience if you are visiting Fairbanks outside of snow season and enjoy hiking, authentic experiences, and dogs!

Participated in the Artic Dog Co. Hut to Hut tour from 11-16 February 2023 in the White Mountains Recreational area near Fairbanks, AK. Our group consisted of 4 tourists and a guide. During that time, we each had our own dog sled team of 5-6 dogs each. We received a lot of personalized instruction, received tasty fulfilling meals, were issued warm comfortable clothing and camping gear, and saw beautiful scenery. The sunsets were gorgeous and we caught the northern lights 3 nights in a row! Some physical exercise is required to harness the dogs and help push the sled up the hills, but very doable. The experience was extraordinary with many beautiful photos and stories to tell. The event was well worth the money and time; I highly recommend it! 👍

2nd time returning to Arctic Dog Adventure Co for a husky walk! You can tell that Lisbet clearly loves her animals and cares well and honestly for them. We got to choose a dog and walk (or be walked!) in nature, then pause for a scrumptious homemade snack with a beautiful view. The ground was a bit slick due to some recent rain, but Lisbet warned us and made sure that everyone was comfortable.

This was such an inspiring opportunity to connect with hard workers, Siberian Huskies. These pups were full of energy, were excellent guides, and knew the way throughout the hike. The human hosts were fabulous! Gave different options throughout the hike and made sure we were extra cared for with thoughtful moments to take in the views and rest.

The husky hike was incredible -- so much more than we expected! My husband wasn't sure he'd enjoy it, but it turned out to be his favorite thing we did in Alaska! Lisbet was so knowledgeable about the dogs and helped us pick out a dog that was perfect for each of us. We picked berries along the way and stopped at a drop-dead gorgeous spot for homemade cookies and tea. Learning about the dogs and their way of life and getting to experience the pull of a husky was amazing. This is a great activity for families and such a cool Alaskan adventure!

The Husky Hike was a unique experience! Totally enjoyable! Our guide Nicole was very knowledgable, friendly and cooperative. She brought cookies and sodas with her and we had a picnic with the dogs during our hike! Definitely recommend it.
