About Trail Breaker Kennel
Family-owned and operated since 1976, Trail Breaker Kennel is one of the longest operating kennels in Alaska. The kennel was founded in Eureka, Alaska, by the late Susan Butcher, a four-time Iditarod champion, and David Monson, her husband, and Yukon Quest champion. Built on a reputation of exemplary dog care and hard work, Trail Breaker Kennel became the premier racing kennel in the world. Today, David, his two daughters, and dedicated staff members provide visitors from around the world a look at the lives of mushers and Alaskan huskies in Interior Alaska. For over 20 years, Trail Breaker Kennel has been a favorite stop on the Riverboat Discovery tour. In the summer, join our mushers and huskies on a Dog Sled Cart Ride, Mushing Demo & Kennel Tour, or Historic Kennel Tour. In the winter, hop in a sled during an exhilarating Dog Sled Ride, or build a custom tour experience with our help. Learn more and book your once-in-a-lifetime Alaskan adventure on our website!

What a wonderful experience! We did a 60 minutes dig sled tour and it was so amazing and also highly informative & interesting. Our musher was super nice and had so many great information to share about the dogs, races and everything else about mushing. I cannot imagine a better dog sled tour and am so grateful we could to the tour with Trail Breaker Kennel. I cannot recommend them highly enough! We felt really well cared for, it was so obvious what a great relationship the team had with the dogs and it was just a perfect experience.

It was such a pleasure meeting Tekla and seeing all the wonderful pups. She really took the time to explaining the care of the dogs. 44 loud and excited, wanting to play dogs :) then she explained how the dogs are lined up behind the sled and we started to hook them up. Then they really got excited, like "LET ME GO, LET ME GO>>>" lol Then her father came out, and with them hooked up to a 4-runner ATV ( Minus an engine, since the pups are the engine LOL Then went off for a couple mile run. When they got back we un-hooked them and off into the river they went to cool off. Then it was feeding time. . If you are ever in the fairbanks area, You have to call the trail breaker kennel and go visit these outstanding animals. Plus, if your lucky enough to get Tekla to be your guide, you will be in for a great time!!
