PERMANENTLY CLOSED according to their website from dec 2020.
Their website says the winery is now permanently closed. Do not go here, you will not find it open.

"Hart"wood Is Deer-My Thought Of By Us
Sep 2018 • Couples
Years ago, my love and I made a visit to Hartwood. We were taking our first steps in our Wine Journey. It was a nice experience. Now that we are further experienced, we stopped by to renew our experience with the wines of Hartwood. We tried : a Chard, a Rose, 3 white blends, a Blush, 1 red blend, a Merlot, a Petit Verdot, and a Cab Sauv. All the wines were good to my palate and very well presented by our Server. We thought well of the Rose and Petit Verdot which we will definitely lay down for a few years. Well worth a visit.

Cute, simple winery

Had some time to kill so stopped by to check out this winery. My pourer was extremely nice and pleasant. They grow two of their grape varietals on site. Their wines a bit sweeter than my taste. It was a nice visit.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, and there was quite a crowd in the tasting room. Shared a tasting , and the server was pleasant. Wine was just very bland and lackluster. Tasted off.

Pleasant Tasting

I have driven past this winery once before and so I made a point to go by again and stop. The location is lovely and they have a picnic area right by the vines. The server was all ready for me when I walked in and quickly got me tasting. He knew his speil by heart and had no trouble answering additional questions. He needed to work on being a little more welcoming, but he knew his business. The wines were very nice and the tasting room was quaint (lots of fruit flies as they are starting to press wine in the room below). I debated between their sweet white and their rose and in the end left with some rose (6% residual sugar).

Nice little winery

We made a quick stop here on the way to the Outer Banks. Nice little place with some tasty wines for a summer indulgence on the beach. The Rappahannock Red made for a nice sangria.

Been Twice Now... Still Just OK
Jan 2017 • Friends
We went a few year ago and really didn't like the wines much then, but when we heard they were having a barrel tasting recently, we figured we'd try it again. The staff in the barrel room and at the tasting bar were cordial and knowledgeable, as well as helpful. The winemaker is interesting.

There were some volunteers who weren't really very "wine tasting room" friendly or knowledgeable though. The venue is rather odd, as it's an 70's style house. Wineries tend to be nice, new and modern or very old, historic-type or timber framed and this is none of that, really not very welcoming as a place we typically go to drink wine.

The wines from the barrels actually tasted quite well. The wines in the bottles, once we came upstairs were just as we remembered - not good at all.

They seem to do a fair amount of business though, must be because there really isn't any other wineries around this particular part of Stafford/Fredericksburg.

Fantastic wine tasting
Jan 2017 • Couples
We had a very enjoyable wine tasting here. The tasting includes 12 wines, all made at the vineyard. They had some very unique and wonderful wines to try in a quiet, laid back setting. It was wonderful and we will definitely come again!

Nice Vineyard
Oct 2016 • Couples
Wherever we travel we do all in our power to sample the local wine. In the case of Hartwood we found a friendly estate vineyard with a nice tasting room and a variety of wine types from which to choose.
Unfortunately, our palates and their wine didn't match up which isn't to say their wine is bad. From the response of other samplers, it must be considered good, it just wasn't what we prefer in our sippings.
All other things considered, its a nice place to visit with reasonably priced products and friendly staff.

Very nice staff!

We stopped into the winery to do a tasting. I must say I was very impressed with the staff there. Annie, who guided our tasting, did a fantastic job telling us about all of the wines as we tasted them and was very accommodating and entertaining. The price was very reasonable as well, because a tasting included 12 wines as well as sangria. Much more impressive than the average winery. It's definitely a good place to stop by for an hour or two if you are in the mood for a tasting.
