We stayed across the street at the Courtyard, and bought tickets on line. Good so far. I got a call 15 minutes before the tour from a VA phone. Did not answer as I know no one from that area code. Too bad for me. The call was from the tour guide, Heidi, who later told us she thought we might like the 1 pm tour instead of the 11 am tour. Come to find out a group of entitled mothers had just bought tickets for their darling 25 kids, age 5-9. Heidi did her darned best to keep peace, but one hour of silence was difficult for this bunch. The tour was excellent and Heidi did a great job. Too many facts to absorb, but a great flavor for the area and a great starting point for further investigation. Trolley was quite clean and sound system worked well. As for the self-absorbed mothers - they should let the driver do the tour instead of yapping like they are at a PTA cocktail hour.

The Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg is a excellent way to learn about Fredericksburg, Virginia. The tour covers the colonial history of the city, as well as the Civil War battle that took place in 1862. The tour is very enjoyable, and informative. Our driver, Mark, was great and shared his knowledge of the city (and also pointed out some local bird species). The tour also helps orient you to other attractions and businesses in the city.
I would recommend anyone visiting Fredericksburg to take the time to go on one of these tours.

I booked a trolley tour to get a flavor of Fredericksburg and what else was available to see. We were lucky enough to get Jim as our driver. He was very informative and excited to show us his town. Jim would stop at different museums and the guides would come out and talk to us for a moment. That was a nice touch that I don’t think other drivers do. I made a note to visit the Hugh Mercer apothecary after our trip and it was definitely worth a visit. We also got ice cream at Abner’s, which was suggested on the tour. Jim gave us several suggestions for dinner. It was definitely worth the money and a great way to see the town.

Decided to take the trolley due to extremely hot weather in lieu of walking. Glad I did. Not only did the guide provide air conditioning ( a hand held fan) but was also very versed in the major points throughout the hour and fifteen minute tour. A little pricey but what the heck.

Have you ever sucked in your breath as your vehicle squeezed down as street that wasn't wide enough to get by? It is a plus to have a confident and competent driver, Diane. We enjoyed winding through the streets as the history of buildings and battles were revealed. The cannonballs still in the brick walls are testament that the war was in town as well as on the battlefield.

Our driver, Jim, was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Fredericksburg and told his stories in an engaging and fun manner. There's so much history in this little town and so many beautiful homes to see. This is a must-do!!

The trolley tour of Fredericksburg gave a brief glimpse into the past of the town along with some pointers on local shops and restaurants. Our tour guide, Jim, spoke very well and offered up a lot of interetsing tidbits along the way. The only negative about the tour was the trolley itself. It was not air conditioned. And being that it was late August, the AC was much needed.

Heidi (I think that was her name) did an excellent tour. She really knows her history and is clear and precise with the description of each point of interest. I highly recommend this tour to get a fantastic history lesson of Fredericksburg.

This tour takes just over the hour, but it was well worth it, even if it meant sitting on the somewhat uncomfortable wooden trolley seats while it criss-crossed the town. The driver was very well informed, and gave an excellent commentary on all the sites we passed. I'm glad we took the tour because it gave us a good insight into what we wanted to return to look at later that afternoon, rather than wandering aimlessly in the heat trying to read from a guidebook!

We went on the trolley tour on the recommendation of our innkeeper. We had never been to Fredericksburg, so I'm glad we did. Had no idea there was so much Colonial and Civil War history here, and the trolley driver/guide knew it all, and was very passionate about it. It was a very educational hour and 15 minutes, and well worth it.

Can you get off and on the trolley to visit sits that you are seeing ?

Hi, What attractions are covered by the tour?
Written December 12, 2017
The Trolley Tour is an overview of attractions available for you to pursue as you choose. They range from pre-Revolutionary history places through the Civil War battle grounds and cemetery into more modern history such as trains, city growth. Some places are 'across the river' and some places are the river itself for you to return to enjoy. The downtown history attractions have period costumed employees waving at you from their establishment. Great overview of venues you may want to explore later as well as learning history in a very easy way. Plenty of shopping and dining available pre or post Trolley. Check the Visitor's Center first, is my suggestion.

Street parking is free with a 2-hour limit. There are free public lots one block down the hill along Sophia Street. The parking garage is one block away (with the entrance on Wolfe Street). The first three hours are free; then it is $1 per hour.

does th trolley make any stops where we can get out and look around?
Written June 30, 2017
The trolley tour in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is not step on, step off. In Amanda H's response from Plano, Texas, she must be referring to the trolley company in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Where do we purchase trolley tickets and where does the trolley depart?
Written August 24, 2016
In the visitors center on the corner of Caroline and Charlotte. Hope I answered in time for your trip. I just saw the question.

How long is the tour (landmark) and should we make a reservation ahead of time? We would be arriving on March 30 and wanting the tour on March 31.
Written March 18, 2015
The tour is 75 minutes long. During tourist season (late Spring through early Fall) the tour can fill up; thus if you absolutely have a small window of time to take the tour, you are better off reserving seats through their online Zerve. If your schedule is flexible for time (i.e. - morning vs afternoon tour), it is not so necessary to reserve a seat. Trolley Tours just purchased a new trolley that seats 30+ individuals. Enjoy!
