Buy as many books as you can at Brookline Booksmith. This is the best of old school. Great selection, great staff, quiet spots to leaf through a potential purchase + host for 'hear the author' events. The best!

Always crowded with eager readers who stll believe that a good book is worth its price and the time necessary to read it. The Booksmith is a constant reminder that books are here to stay and to hold!

Was only a few blocks from our hotel. Could have spent hours in here browsing. Coffee shops located on same block along with other eateries. Perfect place to visit on a cold day. Highly recommended

Even the name Brookline Booksmith is a kind of throwback to the days not all that long ago when a lot of stores affected a kind of humble brag in their names (Radio Shack, for example). Books are obviously not made by "smiths". They are...More

Love the consistently great book selections and recommendations. The used book area and gift selections are an added bonus. It is much better to shop at independent bookstore.

As transatlantic visitors to the US, we marveled at the range of books on offer (and so much else) in this lively bookshop. We enjoyed browsing and restocking on American history, biography classics and new fiction in the used book basement. We had an opportunity...More

If there's space, the most convenient place is a parking lot at the corner of John and Babcock ($1.25/hour). Failing that, and if there's no street parking, you should head for the large parking lot on Centre St.
