Friendly staff, wide range of author visits and a nice selection of gifts (bags, textiles, cards, etc). What I'd love to see: a cafe.

Several years ago Brookline Booksmith, located in Coolidge Corner, a pedestrian neighborhood of Brookline, Massachusetts, celebrated its 50th anniversary. In its mid-sized space, Brookline Booksmith achieves creativity from compression, from straddling that line between being too crowded and too spacious; it generates energy from browsers among the books, magazines, gifts and artist's supplies; energy from the almost nightly book signings,... One of life's pleasures is spending time browsing in Booksmith. The selection is excellent, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location convenient. Brookline Booksmith is an anchor of the Brookline community. Author nights are great!

Not only are the staff helpful and is the book selection excellent for a small independent bookstore, the gift 'boutique' always has perfect little gifts for family and friends and the bookstore attracts a reputable selectio of authors for readings. I absolutely love old fashioned mail and the card selection is the best in the Boston area, with the exception... More

Local bookstore worth a visit. Large gift section. The basement is used books which we were looking forward to but was disappointing. My daughter found 5 books that she purchased. Also quirky gifts (like a stuffed magnetic Sherlock holmes and Mozart). Husband found an autographed copy of a book in the clearance section.
