About
Hi, friend! My name is Don Teuton, and mine is the best walking tour of the beautiful and historic Bonaventure Cemetery. My parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents are buried in these hallowed grounds and I will be as well. I'm a member of the Bonaventure Historical Society and an active volunteer for the same. For me, and mine, Bonaventure Cemetery is a family tradition. If you’re looking for ghost stories, tales of secret societies, or other fanciful things, this is not the tour for you. There are other Bonaventure Cemetery tours you can take if you prefer fiction. I believe that what occurred on these grounds, and in this city, is fascinating enough without the need to embellish. It's two and a half hours of walking and two and a half hours of history. It isn't for everyone but please join me if you can. And it's name-your-own-price. Y'all tell me what it's worth. I promise we'll have a good time.

We went on this tour last weekend on a beautiful Saturday morning. Don was extremely informative about the facts, not only the history of the cemetery, but also the history of Savannah. He is a true gem that is passionate about his tour and not someone just hired to read a script. If you want to go on a tour of Bonaventure I would highly, highly recommend Don. My husband commented on the way home that he enjoyed the tour more than he thought he would. That's a huge compliment!

Excellent tour encompassing all aspects of the history surrounding Savannah. A two hour tour turned into 3 hours and Don kept us mesmerized with his extensive knowledge of the area and people from Savannah's early beginning to the present. This was my 2nd time and Don continues to amaze with his ongoing research and dedication to sharing the great history of Savannah.

An absolutely fantastic tour! Don was so knowledgeable about the history of the cemetery and Savannah and created a great narrative he wove through the entire tour. I was only sorry the cemetery closed and we could not spend more time with Don. Would highly recommend Don and his tour of Bonaventure to anyone who visits or lives in Savannah.

I would recommend doing this tour on one of the first days that you arrive in Savannah. Don has incredible knowledge on the cemetery and Savannah. He will give you advice on other places to visit/eat, and inform you of other tours in the city that are worthwhile as well. There are A LOT of tour companies in this quaint and beautiful little city, many of them fall short of your expectations. If you have any interest in history at all, and want to hear some fascinating information, Bonaventure Don is the tour for you! My friend Katie and I felt like it was the highlight of our trip!
Thanks again Don!
Thanks again Don!

We thought we knew Bonaventure. We are 25-year residents of Savannah, and have volunteered at Bonaventure for years, but Don's depth of knowledge and appreciation of its history apparently know no bounds. His personal connection with the cemetery and with Savannah bring an immediacy to his narrative. This is no dry recitation of facts. Neither is it sensationalized pseudo-history. Equally educational and entertaining, five stars are not enough. You need to take this tour!

What an incredible tour?! Bonaventure Don's tour was the best tour that I've been on to date. The amount history that Don delivers is absolutely amazing! Even better, Don works diligently to make sure that he conveys the most historically accurate possible. To substantiate that, he even gives you references to verify what he's telling you. Now how many tours have you gone on that does that?! None, I bet. Don also delivers the info in a way that keeps you engaged so he's obviously paying attention who is audience/customer is. I'd gladly take a tour with Don again would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to anyone! Don is more than a tour guide, he's an ambassador!

What a great tour! We walked through Bonaventure Cemetery and learned more about the history of Savannah through the stories of the people buried there. The details of the monuments were described and the we learned about the sculptor who carved many of the most beautiful monuments/tombstones. The azaleas were beginning to bloom and the camelias were also blooming so it was a beautiful place to be. Thanks Don for a most informative and educational tour that was also just plain fun!

From the moment we signed up for this tour, I knew it would be amazing. Don sends out emails prior to the event letting you know what to expect, what to wear (cause it can be really hot & humid in the summer), how long you'll be there and more details. And the fact it's a "pay what you feel it's worth" tour is amazing. Don's knowledge of not only the cemetery and its "residents", but how those lifeless names tie into the history of Savannah is amazing. He has a way of telling stories that makes you want to stay and learn more even after spending 2 1/2 hours walking and listening. I'd highly recommend this tour if you want to learn what makes Savannah tick and where all those street names and names of parks and places in the city come from. Thanks Don for a very educational and historic tribute to the cemetery and city.

Nothing is more worth your time while visiting Savannah. I'd recommend making this the first stop on your trip, so when you explore the city in the days following, you have some background to go off of! Don makes the stories of Savannah interesting and funny, even for those who aren't history buffs. Genuinely seems to love what he does.

Don’s tour of Bonaventure Cemetery is not only a comprehensive tour of the beautify cemetery it is also a great overview of Savannah’s intriguing history. Don tells the story of those in the cemetery bring Savannah’s alive while weaving through the beautiful cemetery grounds. The tour does have a fair bit of walking however, Don takes his time and works with the pace of the group. Water is on hand, as is bug spray as needed. We did the tour early in our trip and recommend this approach as you will appreciate the rest of your savannah visit much more.

Any chance you are touring Monday of Memorial Weekend?
Written May 20, 2019
Oh, boy, I just now saw this, two months too late. But, FYI, on Memorial Day I don't hold tours. Every Memorial Day there is a ceremony at the American Legion plot that my wife and I never miss.
(And, thank you, JD O for answering for me.) Don

Do you have a webpage? How would someone sign up for a tour? My husband and I will be in Savannah April 9 to the 11th, and would like to take a 2-3 hour tour with you. He is 83 years old and does not want to do a great deal of walking--he loves to hear about the history.

Hi, sure, love to have you.

We’ll walk about a mile and a half in two and a half hours. If your husband isn’t up for that I can recommend a great bus tour of the cemetery.
