Exploring Savannah with Vaughnette was absolutely wonderful! This tour is a must for anyone visiting the city, particularly with the chance to know more about its history with a scholar; museum director; civil rights leader, and community activist. She is also so lovely, approachable, and fun. Vaughnette uses storytelling to bring to light the institution of slavery evident in its streets and squares. Other museums in Savannah, do not speak about Savannah's role in the slave trade and in many cases, straight up omit this from their exhibits. This isn't good because, in order to improve race relations and reduce racial prejudice in our country, we must understand the roots of it. Therefore, I highly encourage you to be a part of this tour and share it with others visiting the city. I surely will do that :) Thank you, Vaughnette!

This was an impromptu weekend getaway for my husband and I and after 6 months of shutdown due to Covid we were excited to travel to Savannah. He googled walking tours and came across Footprints of Savannah and essentially booked it without reading the description to me. He could not have found a better guide! Vaughnette's dedication and attention to detail, her professionalism and enthusiasm for truth telling was evident almost from the word hello. The generosity of her willingness to share her passion with us was such that we could not believe more than two hours lapsed on that hot Saturday morning! Like good historians, Vaughnette has propelled me to seek more information about how black and brown people have built this country and the debt of gratitude owed to sacrifices made long before any war. This walking tour is well worth the time should you be in Savannah and want to explore the area!

I knew that I would love touring with Vaughnette based on both the glowing reviews I had read and my initial conversation with her to book our tour. My husband, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our private walking tour with Vaughnette. Earlier in her life, Vaughnette worked in broadcast journalism and her command of historic details and ability to customize her tours to fit the interests of her audience reflect this background. She is well educated, well researched, articulate and witty. I loved the way she drew my quiet daughter into conversation and so enjoyed seeing my daughter fully engaged in this tour. We had taken a trolley tour the day before which allowed us to travel across town, however, there was NO COMPARISON between the narration of the trolley tour and the in- depth conversation we were able to have with Vaughnette. We loved that she carried a binder of information she had researched which allowed us to review slave trade documents, see the faces of some key historical figures and places, and review the numbers of slaves involved in certain types of work in Savannah. We also came to realize that Vaughnette is very involved in various important volunteer roles within the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. It was impressive to see that she was greeted by many people as we progressed on our tour. She referred to them by name whether they were professors, street vendors or other tour guides. She loves Savannah and knows the city and it’s inhabitants well. Once Vaughnette learned that my husband was raised in England and had lived for a time in Manchester working in the textile industry, she was able dig deep in conversing with him about the cotton trade, English manufacturing practices and famous historical figures. I share this as we were very impressed with her ability to learn a bit about each person in her tour group and then customize her comments to draw each of us in. This in no way is a rehearsed script repeated with every tour! We encourage you to tour with Vaughnette and stress that this terrific learning experience can be had for a bargain price! She also offers Zoom tours for people concerned about COVID-19 exposure. For brave walkers like us, she wears a face mask which looked lovely with her colorful clothing (see photos). She expects her tour participants to respect her and fellow tour participants by also wearing masks on her tour.

We visited Savannah in February and went on a walking tour. Vaughnette was incredible, we loved the tour including how she customized it per our interests and shared so much rich history including of Savannah's history with the slave trade and complicated past. We also went on another walking tour of Savannah (one of the top-rated popular ones) the same week and enjoyed this one SO much more. Vaughnette is authentic, knowledgeable, and a great storyteller.

This is the type of tour that leaves you feeling changed. Vaughnette is a master at her craft and she makes Savannah come alive. A highlight of our visit, if you're doing one tour here this is the one. But be ready, connecting to the cities true antebellum past is an emotional experience. We loved this tour.
