Worth Discovering
Oct 2021
Learned about this hidden speakeasy while reading up on what to do in Savannah. The article talked about how you have to locate a key holder and then find the place hidden within the back alleys of Savannah. We were excited about a scavenger hunt type adventure with a cool places to have drinks and relax when we found it. I was a tad disappointed in how it wasn't really difficult to find at all. Asked our concierge about it and they immediately gave us the password.

We found the entry to it during the day and went back that night to visit. The alley was a bit sketchy when we got there around 1030 or 11 but we went on down and entered the establishment. It was crowded but we were able to grab two seats at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and engaging.

We found the place to be very loud, but this was mostly crowd noise. Around midnight it emptied out and become more of the chill/quiet location we had read about. The bartenders did tell us it was the norm for it to die down around midnight. If I were to go back I'd probably wait until around that time.

The drinks were amazing, the decor was pretty cool. I think I may have built it up in my head to be more than it was but glad we at least tried it out.

It most have been an off night!

We went to Mata Hari’s because it was recommended to us. I’ve been to a few speak easy places and the only thing about this place being a speak easy was that it was dark. The good bartenders (according to other reviews) must have had the night off. The burlesque show…what a rip off! Spend your money else where.

A local recommended Mata Hari and soo glad we took his advice. Cool speakeasy joint with fantastic mixologists whipping up the best cocktails. Live music when we went-a soloist and dang if he did not have the soulful voice of an angel

What a delightful speakeasy burlesque establishment in Savannah! We learned of it in passing from someone at our hotel and it was told to us that you need a password though I’m not entirely sure someone would be refused admittance who’s visiting without it. But a quick call letting them know where your staying should make this a non-issue if you’re interested.

The layout is great in that seating was spaced out which I appreciated him during the ease of Covid restrictions, with the biggest challenge being ordering a drink when there is a light crowd as there is only one or two bartenders that’s the reason I deducted one. We ordered two so we didn’t have to wade through and hope to get a bartenders attention. Haha.

This is a good option if you’re interested in live music and entertainment and are a bit of a night owl.

Disappointed

Was so looking forward to to going. Got the password from our concierge and couldn’t wait. Knocked on the door and the guy didn’t even care about the password only IDs we are in our 50-and 60’s. Sat down once in the place, but no one waited on us after about 15 minutes. Went to the bar but the bar tender was so slow. Then another guy stopped us to sell us $30.00 tickets to the Caberet show, we didn’t expect that part. The place was cool looking but the experience was a lot to be desired. They could use more help and make it a complete adventure.

Cool looking place. The password isn’t required. We were never able to get a drink after a 45 min wait so we left. Bartender needs help. Awesome singer. Great vibe.

cool, something different to do

we went on Hallowe'en. Our B&B told us there was no passcode used anymore, but the man at the door at Mata Hari said there was. Anyway ultimately we found a way to enter. The singer had a good voice. The decor is cool and we enjoyed the recorded music as well as the singer. Drinks average quality and perhaps a bit high, but with no cover and live music I guess it could be justified. Nice little place, not too classy and not too seedy, just interesting and fun.

Best place to visit while in Savannah!

Best place in Savannah! E heard about this speakeasy on our last trip here and had to find it again! You will have to get the pass word from your concierge to get in. There is no signage so you really have to look for it, out the long line waiting to get in as the night progresses. The bartenders are amazing and work non-stop. The decor is perfect with a secret room through a piece of furniture on the wall. Their list of specialty drinks is fun and quirky. This place will never disappoint !!
