Overview
More
The Owens-Thomas House is considered by architectural historians to be one of the finest examples of English Regency architecture in America. Inspired by classical antiquity, this style of architecture takes its name from England’s King George IV, who ruled as Prince Regent from 1811 to 1820.The house was designed by the young English architect William Jay, one of the first professionally-trained architects practicing in the United States. The elegant residence was built from 1816 to 1819 for cotton merchant and banker Richard Richardson and his wife Francis Bolton. Mr. Richardson’s brother-in-law was married to Ann Jay, the architect’s sister. Three years after the house’s completion, Richardson suffered financial losses and sold his house, which later came under possession of the Bank of the United States.

This is an amazing house built by one of America's great architects. It has so many modern features for when it was constructed that it is a true treasure to tour. A Savannah highlight.

This is worth touring if you have the time. The tour will give you are good sense of what it must have been like in Savannah in the 1820s and beyond.

Not the most interesting place in Savanna. The house only lets you visit in tours, which are every 15 minutes. The museum score has relatively small choice of gifts. Good bathrooms.

House was beautiful, lots of history and ghost tails to go along with it. The one that done our tour was really good. Furniture in house is breath taking.

This stop is on most shuttle tours of the historic district and is worth visiting if you like old mansions and the unique architectural designs.

I loved the front staircase-possibly one of a kind for reflecting candlelight we were told. Period furnishings from one of the previous families who owned it. Walls unbelievably thick! Many beautiful rooms . It's a must see.
