I imagined something like a flea market or a wide avenue of shops and restaurants but City Market was really small. There are plenty of restaurants and bars, a few art galleries, candy and ice cream shops, but it was mostly geared toward adults. I'm still not used to seeing bars offering 'to-go' cups, which is unheard of if you're from the East Coast. You can sit down, people watch, have a drink, snack and/or ice cream, but you can see everything here in an hour or less.

City Market seems to be experiencing the same decay as most major city shopping areas... We are from Baltimore and the Harbor Place looks exactly the same.

A few restaurants doing well, a few barely hanging on. Some "art" local stuff and some "boutiques" where they are selling Chinese stuff at boutique prices.

These areas are sadly in decline.

It's worth a visit but no more than 90 minutes.

A bit disappointing. It is small - couple of blocks total - and oriented more on adult food and drink than anything else. This is some good food, stores for the kids, and art stores. A lot of interesting people around, if you’re into people watching. But if you are looking to browse shops, I would try some of the other areas in Savannah.

The City Market area is all of 2 blocks. There are a bunch of overpriced shops, the Prohibition Museum and a few expensive restaurants. Anything you want to buy here you can get a lot cheaper somewhere else as you are paying the City Market tourist price. It will take maybe 5 minutes for you to walk the entire area. There are nicer areas and attractions in town to spend those 5 minutes.

We visited Savannah April 25-28th, 2022. We were really looking forward to our visit there to see historic Savannah. We've visited Charleston SC several times and have really enjoyed Charleston...unfortunately, we can not say the same about Savannah. While we are glad we went, we have no interest in ever going back.

The Negatives:
1. Surprised and very disappointed how dirty the city is. I understand there are lots of tourists, but a city the lives off of tourism should clean up its act. It just felt grimy everywhere.
2. The homeless: Yes they are everywhere, but more here than I've seen in any other tourist area. I even got hit up for money in a Whole Foods. I would not feel that safe walking in some of the areas at night.
3. It's dark: At least seems that way to us. I'd contribute that to SCAD. We did not feel good about being there.
4. The Trolly Ride: We did the entire 15 stop trolly ride because we wanted to get as much in as possible. While you do learn some history, when you are riding in a trolly car with a big roof on it, you can't look up to see the wonderful and beautiful architecture/homes.

The Positives:
1. Walking Tour through Genteel and Bard: By far the best part of our trip and well worth it.
2. Mrs. Wilkes: Awesome down home country cookin' and eating with people you don't know.
3. Boars Head restaurant was also very good.
4. Wormsloe Historic Site was beautiful and enjoyed our walk through the grounds there.

No need to go here. Belford's was the worst - nearly empty and would not let us have drinks on their patio and gave us a 'story' of why not. Irritating at best. We did find a place for a cocktail outside, Wild Wing. Our server was working the entire place by herself - thank you! If not for her, we would have never sat down. Apparently this place is only for tourists and not great.

There is a lot of construction going on in this area and nearby. The tour bus driver was confusing as he said that City Market used to be in one area then it was in another area . But I think we found the correct present area and it is delightful to walk thru and look at the shops.

The city market is a few blocks of quaint shops and restaurants. It’s not a flea market or open air market but an area of local shops and eateries in a beautiful downtown area. Lots of places to sit and have a drink or grab a bite and shop. It’s a nice little area!

After visiting the Charleston City Market I was looking forward to the same kind of experience here. I was disappointed. The area is small with a few unexceptional shops and the prohibition museum. Overall, not worth the time for a specific visit. Just worth a walk thru as you're passing by.

Unique specialty shops and food venues and bars... many specialty shops and more! Outdoor and Indoor dining offered... Live music on the weekends.
This is a neat place to walk, hang out or dine! Always a place to have a drink. All are in a decent place for good times, food, fun and drinks; shopping too~ Recommend....
