This monumental structure is worth a look if in the area. It is a memorial to those Polish victims of a Soviet massacre during the World War II era. It's in the center of a traffic circle so might not be worth looking for parking to later walk up to the sculpture that is this memorial so maybe just worth a drive by unless you're staying within walking distance. You can later then Google the Katyn Massacre for more information.

This is a beautiful monument, with the story behind the event and the artwork itself clearly told in two large written displays. I wouldn't say it is worth driving to for it alone, but if you are in the area on foot, it is worth a detour. The blocks around it have some trendy retail stores, a Whole Foods, a movie theater, and are just a block from a marina and the Harbor East water taxi/water connector stop.

This sculpture is beautiful, i'm just not sure how it fits with Baltimore or the harbor. Surrounded by upscale restaurants, hotels and retail stores it's an interesting call out by the community. If you are searching for a reminder of a Russian atrocity or following some of your polish roots, then perhaps worth seeking it out, otherwise may be best enjoyed if you happen upon it like i did.

Amazing tribute to Poland. Not many people realize what this statue represents. A significant amount of Polish immigrants came to Baltimore particularity in the canton, Highlandtown Dundalk area. Good to know that we remembered all those soldiers that died for freedom.

My guess as drivers pass this monument they are asking themselves what is this. You'll never know unless you go up and read the description. The memorial itself wont give you many clues.

Baltimore is full of surprises. And this monument is one of them. Located on a round-about across from the Hopkins Business School, on Aliceanna and President streets. the sculpture commemorates the massacre of Polish soldiers by the Soviet forces in 1940. The bronze monument towers above the surrounding street with abstract forms. It looks like a giant flame, with human figures engulfed in the fire. The base has a fountain with water trickling, a counterpoint to the rising forms. You would miss the impact of the figures if you drove by in a car. During my stay in the area, I would walk by the monument until I stopped to admire it. The history it memorializes is very shocking. Nonetheless, its art moves you to reflect and remember the lives of those killed. It honors the fallen and gives the living a reminder of the atrocities of history. If you are in the area, don't miss this spectacular monument.

This monument commemorates the Katyn Massacre, which is a little odd as that is not something that took place in America or that America was a part of, making this monument feel out of place. It's kind of disturbing, and kind of beautiful, and somehow feels artistically as out of place as its location. Take a look if you're nearby or interested in the Katyn Massacre, but not somewhere I would recommend going out of your way to see.

Beautiful Katyn Memorial commemorating the Katyn Massacre, with water fountain cascading at the base. It's located on a roundabout off of the Inner Harbor near a hotel. Summarizes the horrors of the Katyn Massacre that occurred during World War II. Well worth the stop.

On Saturday morning we were walking form the hotel and when crossing the circle we saw this monument. Really nicely done and very informative on the plaques around it.

Most people probably are not familiar with the Katyn massacres in WWII. However, this is a nice dedication to the polish officers executed in the Katyn forest of Russia. Not sure why it is in Baltimore, but its worth a look especially if you are familiar with WWII history.
