Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

There's nothing like this anywhere else -- a museum devoted to the work of quirky self-taught artists, a fantastically original collection in every kind of medium. I you love art, you must go.

I love this museum. This was our 2nd visit and we were pleased to see new exhibits. It's quirky, it's thought provoking, it's just fun. My husband can typically sleep in an art museum, but not this one. A must see in Baltimore.

AVAM is simply one of the unique museums around--and there's always so much to take in! Plan on a couple of hours at least to lose yourself in the absorbing and thought-provoking exhibits, and then tack on another hour for the Sideshow shop, which is...More

Love the whole idea behind this place. Self-taught, self-motivated "visionary" artists doing their thing in creative, original ways with all kinds of different medium. The current exhibit deals with the transformative power of "hope". It includes a fair amount of photos from Bobby Adams (John...More

Talking about the Walters Museum, friends suggested we visit the AVAM. The hook was, "...most of the artists were or are 'nuts'." So, as promised the art works were stupendous ranging from the works of obsessive compulsives a to paranoid schizophrenics. Many artists are also...More

A nice twist to the whole vacation. Went around the museum and surprised at what things can be created with just junk. Nice visit.
