This is someone’s house 🏡 so I parked at the school and walked up quietly. As I walk up I seen other people walking we all get to the top take our photos and got out of there. Now there is a donation box by the mailbox the sign at the bottom of the hill is different than the others ones posted, I went last year in COVID snuck up and this year to and have been able to take a quick photo and leave.

Important info for Goonies visit
Jun 2021 • Family
When visiting the Goonies house please park by the river and walk up. Foot traffic is always welcome! Vehicle traffic in our neighborhood is very difficult to deal with. Duane and 38th streets are dead ends, therefore, all vehicles have to find a place to turn around which actually doubles the traffic foot print. Some folks are respectful but we regularly deal with garbage and dog excrement being left behind, speeding, and large RVs trying to make their way through the small streets.
The river is beautiful, there’s plenty of parking, and the walk is great. Enjoy your visit and remember we love foot traffic - vehicle traffic is very difficult to deal with.

It’s Definitely “Open”
Jun 2021 • Couples
The Goonies house is definitely open for visiting and viewing from outside the fenced yard. The opportunity to stroll
up the long driveway is open for those who would like to walk up, see the house, take photos and enjoy the view. While the owners and neighbors do not want folks driving up to the house, as I’ve shown with attached pictures people are invited to walk up and visit, just be respectful. The pilgrimage of people wishing to see the Goonies house was barely slowed down by the pandemic. On any given day 10 to 20 people would stop, park and walk up, with weekends and holidays seeing several dozen voyeurs. Now with tourist season and COVID restrictions lifting, it is already back up to dozens of people every day and up to 100 or more on weekends and holidays! Come to Astoria and enjoy!

Signs say "walk up"...but I wouldn't
Feb 2021
There seems to be some kind of disagreement between the neighbors. Two mailboxes now have signs that say "Yes! Walk up!" and another sign says "no cars," which is totally understandable.

I had no intention of walking up to the house at all, I actually wanted to film all the signs that say "private property," which are still there, for my blog. I actually wanted to warnn people that the homeowners don't want the tourists (again understandable). But the welcoming signs and the friendly man at the top of the hill waving changed my mind.

That is until the Karen that other reviewers have mentioned suddenly backed her vehicle down the gravel drive and screeched to a stop by me. She informed me that it's a private drive.

I pointed out that it's a little bit confusing, given the signs. She claimed that "they are just trying to get donations" and that the city had put up the signs. These signs are sweet handmade signs, so that doesn't sit right. Though donations make sense.

But until the neighbors sort out whether they want tourists or not, I would avoid at all costs as that woman legit tried to run me off the road when she left. Her anger over the situation runs DEEP. (Again, I kind of get it...but let's all hope she moves on or moves homes.)

Definitely iconic
Aug 2020
We parked a couple of blocks away and as we neared the corner, were definitely harassed by the Karen that previous posters had mentioned. However, another family was walking down and stated that she had seen them up, and basically tried to hit them with her car. Not cool. At the house, there was someone painting who didn't mind at all that they had come up to see it. the ominous signs are gone, just "Private Road" which Karen claimed had been put up by the city. I took 2 quick photos and left with my daughter.

Look from a distance out of respect, if you're a fan.
Jul 2020
I'm being generous with the rating, out of respect of the homeowners. It was pretty meh. It's just the house and they have signs saying No Trespassing. I get it, people want their privacy and it's an iconic house. I'd say if you're a huge Goonies fan or something, just look from a distance, let the people have their life. Try to imagine strangers constantly coming by your place, looking around, taking photos. No thank you.

The house must have changed hands within the last few months based on our visit today.

1. The signs at the bottom of the driveway near the mailboxes about trespassing and calling the police that you've seen in pictures are gone. The only sign next to the mailboxes says "YES."

2. We exchanged pleasantries with both the owner (or whoever was in the house at the time) and a neighbor to the right (if you're looking at the house). Both women gave big smiles and said hi.

3. The house was in great shape. I assume the tarps mentioned by other visitors were for renovations by the new owner.

We left $20 in the donation box and parked in the boat ramp lot next to the Comfort Suites. Don't park or pull over in the neighborhood nearby the house. Parking at the boat launch is $10 for the day and we left our parking ticket in the machine for the next person. Good spot to access the Riverwalk too. You can park for free at Safeway, which is a little further from the house.

Being respectful of the neighbors and neighborhood will ensure future visitors are able to enjoy access too.

Great

I parked at the Safeway out of respect to the local homes (there is street parking close by) and had a nice short walk past Ginos pizza and walked up to an icon of my childhood. There was a Jeep parked there with a sign that says foot traffic only. I took all the pictures I wanted and just stood there and took it all in. Left a few dollars in the donation box (the Goonies house needs some repairs). No problems with anyone. Great nostalgic moment in my life. Thank you for the owner that seems to understand this is a cult icon. PS if you ever want to sell give me a call. Key is simple: Respect the owner and the properties up there.

Don’t even bother. Final boss Karen was blocking the driveway yelling at kids wearing goonies t-shirts physically blocking people from coming up. When we asked her why there was a sign saying foot traffic welcome she said that’s from the owners trying to get donations. You can see the house partially from the street but unless you want you and your kids getting an earful don’t bother. Whoever that lady was, if you are reading this you should be ashamed of yourself. I understand you don’t like people walking up your driveway, and if so how about putting up a gate? The ten year olds who respectfully turned around are more mature than you are. Most people will respect your privacy when asked nicely.

We went to check out the Goonies house and were able to go right up to it with no issues. We parked down the street towards the school and walked up. Be respectful and there's no issues! They have a donation box at the house.
