    beautiful bridge
I have always appreciated bridges. The engineering required is truly an amazing feat. Its not the Golden Gate but if you ever get to cross while a huge freighter is going under the bridge you get the true scale of the bridge. Also it is one of the better maintained bridges I've been on

    Fascinating bridge
This green bridge you can see all over astoria. I photographed it from so many different angles, atop of the column, by the docks, from a view point by the river and of course as I drove across it, 4 miles to Washington across, its a very smooth ride, its called a truss bridge and I believe its the longest of its kind in the world. The green apple color really makes the bridge stand out. You must drive across it while in the quaint town of astoria

Surprisingly steep hill as we drove over from Washington.
It's quite the bridge. Look in your review mirror as you drive up the hill from the Washington side. All you see is bridge and water. It's a memorable drive, like Mackinac, Golden Gate, and the Sunshine Skyway. It was an event, at least for me. It also takes a good picture.

We have lived in Astoria, and still take the drive there often. The Megler bridge is a beautiful way to see the Columbia river and the shores of both Washington and Oregon. It's free to cross, so even if you are not traveling to the other state, do cross and then go back around to check it out.

This is an amazing bridge which has a very hight point to let large cargo ships pass in and out of the entrance to the Columbia River. The rest of the bridge is more like a causeway. We traveled this bridge 3-4 times during our stay and the views were great and we felt safe.

We actually wanted to visit Seaside, Oregon to be at the beach, as we started out from Olympia, Washington. However it began raining as soon as we crossed the Columbia River into Portland. Hotel and Motels seem to want $200 a night! So we had continued making our direction West and ended up in Astoria and decided to cross the bridge and head home. We will plan another trip in better weather.

This is an incredible bridge spanning over 4 miles across the mouth of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. It really gives you the true picture of how massive this river is. There is a Truss type bridge well above the water at both ends for boats and Ships to pass under and the middle span is close to the water where you can really get the perspective of the size of the Columbia.

Tis stunning bridge, with amazing structural lines is just part of what welcomes folks to Astoria. It's quite an experience to just see it spanning the Columbia River. It's also an exceptional opportunity to drive over it. And for sunset pictures it extremely special.

I have said for many years there is no way I will go over that bridge!!!. I even sent my husband and kids over while I waited behind. A couple of weeks ago I was with friends heading to the lighthouses and I told them...no bridge...she took the wrong turn and there we were - on that damn bridge. However, after the 4th trip over, I was calm and of course, the scenery is incredible. I have always been in love with Oregon and now I have one more adventure under my belt.

You are crossing the Columbia Bridge close to its mouth, about 2 miles wide.
Most of it is just above sea level but at the south end it soars to about 200 ft elevation.
Keep your eyes open and enjoy the views.

Ok, so this bridge is high, like really high !!! You don't realize it till you come around the corner from the coast 101 highway. If you have a driver/passenger who is afraid of heights they will not like it much. And its almost 4 miles long, al of it over water. Most of it is much lower, but the high span, well, its high !!!! Unfortunately if you need to get from Washington to Oregon or vice versa, this is the only close or convenient way. No tolls, but where the old toll booth were is still there.
