We were staying in Astoria for 3 nights and each day visited our friends in Ocean Park, WA so you either take the Wahkiakum County Ferry in Westport which is 30 minutes east of Astoria or you drive across the bridge. Personally I love the bridge as it is a 55 mph zone so basically just like a Highway. The bridge was built in 1966 and is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. The views are spectacular and the passing ships are amazing. Highly recommend not only the bridge, but take some time to park near the bridge and watch the ships travel in and out of the Columbia River.

This is an amazing bridge which has a very hight point to let large cargo ships pass in and out of the entrance to the Columbia River. The rest of the bridge is more like a causeway. We traveled this bridge 3-4 times during our stay and the views were great and we felt safe.

The Astoria-Megler Bridge, completed in 1966, was the engineering feat of its time. It is the longest truss bridge in North America and well worth the drive over from Washington to Oregon, or vice versa. The view of the Columbia River emptying into the Pacific Ocean is gorgeous on a sunny day! There is plenty to see and do in Astoria with a walkway along the Columbia River where you can get great views of this amazing bridge. We have crossed this bridge many, many times and every time we do, we enjoy the awesome views! It's a "must see" if you are visiting the Pacific Northwest!

We have lived in Astoria, and still take the drive there often. The Megler bridge is a beautiful way to see the Columbia river and the shores of both Washington and Oregon. It's free to cross, so even if you are not traveling to the other state, do cross and then go back around to check it out.

The bridge is definitely the largest visual landmark on the landscape. You can't be in Astoria and miss it, so be sure to take a ride across it! (And go check out the adorable communities of Ilwaco and Long Beach a few minutes north!)
The bridge really is a cool feature and the views and photo opportunities on both sides are beautiful. You won't regret taking the few minutes for this free ride.

This is an incredible bridge spanning over 4 miles across the mouth of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. It really gives you the true picture of how massive this river is. There is a Truss type bridge well above the water at both ends for boats and Ships to pass under and the middle span is close to the water where you can really get the perspective of the size of the Columbia.

Tis stunning bridge, with amazing structural lines is just part of what welcomes folks to Astoria. It's quite an experience to just see it spanning the Columbia River. It's also an exceptional opportunity to drive over it. And for sunset pictures it extremely special.

Ok, so this bridge is high, like really high !!! You don't realize it till you come around the corner from the coast 101 highway. If you have a driver/passenger who is afraid of heights they will not like it much. And its almost 4 miles long, al of it over water. Most of it is much lower, but the high span, well, its high !!!! Unfortunately if you need to get from Washington to Oregon or vice versa, this is the only close or convenient way. No tolls, but where the old toll booth were is still there.

Astoria Megler bridge is over 4 miles long. It is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. Connects Oregon and Washington! Beautiful bridge to travel across and to view from a distance.

You are crossing the Columbia Bridge close to its mouth, about 2 miles wide.
Most of it is just above sea level but at the south end it soars to about 200 ft elevation.
Keep your eyes open and enjoy the views.
