This is a great bike route since you don’t have to worry too much about vehicle traffic . Just a few streets to cross. Quiet country path. See the cows!

Great Little Trail
May 2021
It's a lovely trail. It's a straight trail that stretches on for a few miles, making it great for jogging or biking (in fact, bikers love it). I like coming here to walk. There are a lot of lush trees and plant life, and there is a good amount of shade but it is paved, so it might not be an overabundance of natural sites here. Still, it's a great place.

Nice trail
Mar 2021
This a a nice bike trail that is smooth and in good condition. A couple of the trail heads have portapotties. There is not a lot to see along the trail but it is peaceful.

What a find
Sep 2020
It is next to impossible to find a fully shaded bike trail in Florida to ride in the summer months. This wonderful trail through a rural community fits the bill indeed especially if you start from the Halsema trail head parking and go west to Baldwin which is fully shaded. East of this recommend trail head toward Jacksonville is far more exposed to the sun. Nice surface and wonderful for bikers, skaters, walkers, etc.

Paved Trail
Jun 2020
A perfect paved trail tucked in the industrial Jacksonville area, this trail is ideal for long bike rides, jogging, and walking. Beside the trail is an abundance of Florida nature and possibly some wildlife if you are lucky. The Imeson starting point does have bathroom facilities.

A hidden gem in Jacksonville
Feb 2020
The full distance on this bike trail is 14.5 miles, from the Imeson Rd trail head to the Baldwin trail head. But you can go to the Halsema Road trailhead and pedal 6 miles to Baldwin. At the end is a very pleasant visitor center with picnic tables. The 6 mile trip took a little over an hour and there are benches where you can rest. It is a 5 minute ride to the Everyone's Restaurant, a great place to eat--sandwiches, salads and soup. Service and food are excellent. An old Florida diner popular with locals. This section of the trail is almost always shaded and good for summer cycling.

It is a paved trail. Plenty of parking available. This trail is perfect for walking, jogging, riding a bicycle, pushing a stroller or using a wheelchair. Few places to sit.

Great Paved Former Railroad Trail
Apr 2019 • Couples
My wife and I have biked this trail a couple of times. With its paved surface and shade cover it makes for a pleasant ride even on a hot day. It's truly a gem. We are surprised that there weren't more people on it.
There are several places to park, get water, and toilets along the route.

Great place for walks, runs, bikes! My wife and I enjoy the “train bed” trail as it is wide and level. She is temporarily in a wheel chair and this makes perfect place for me to walk with her and get in my exercise. Everyone that walks/rides this trail I so polite and helpful.

We are traveling to Jacksonville without bikes or a bike carrier. Is there a place near the trail to rent bike for the day? I have been unable to find bike rentals online. Thanks!

There is not anything close per se, but actually not too far from there. It is 15 miles or 28 minutes, depending on what time of day you are driving. The address is:

Are electric scooters for the disabled allowed?

I called Duval county parks department. They said they have no policy about scooters not being allowed. They did voice concern depending on the distance you plan to go is that your battery is fully charged. It is 12 miles down to Baldwin and 12 back. They do have mileage signs posted but not at each mile. They do have one facility on the trail with bathrooms and drinking fountains. A lot of the trail is not shaded so would not go in the heat of the day. You can start either the Commonwealth entrance or other no at Baldwin located at old railroad station. Good luck.

Is there a place where u can stop & have a light picnic?

The Camp Milton Battleground has an entrance to the trail, and at the trail connection there are restrooms, water, and picnic tables. You can start there by going here using gps on your phone:
1225 Halsema Rd N, Jacksonville, FL 32220
Then ride back to there when you get hungry and ride the other direction afterwards.
There is also:
Larry M. Carroll Memorial Park with a train exhibit and senior center. I don't recall if you have access to restrooms there.

Is this a safe place to park and ride?

I ride this trail regularly during daylight and into the evening and have never had even the hint of a problem. It has people cycling and walking nearly always except during the worst weather.
There are regulars, the occasional police officer and maintenance workers around.
I do follow normal precautions, lock my car, secure my valuables etc..
