A large mostly undeveloped park on the westside of Jacksonville. Mostly of interest to fisherman, or those just interested in walking in the woods. There are several lakes/ponds in the park, trails and picnic tables. The only bathrooms available are at the main entrance to the park. The park is usually not very crowded, easy to find a spot to enjoy nature by yourself or catch some fish.

We found this park online and decided to drive there from Ft Caroline area. It is a relatively undeveloped park. Previous reviews indicated good hiking. We drove down the long driveway until it ended which is at least 1.5 miles. It had rained the night before and the driveway was very muddy with poor drainage. There were large/deep potholes filled with water. I was able to drive through them with my Subaru Outback. However, I would strongly recommend that folks (without an SUV) not attempt to drive down this driveway during wet weather/season. One could easily get stuck...as a previous review has confirmed.

We could not locate the trail head and decided to go to another park for hiking...as it was too wet during our visit. However, this is a nice secluded park if that is what you are looking for. Be sure to have a cell phone in case of an emergency.

Always keep your eyes open to finding a hidden gem. I accidently found "William Pope Duval Park " while on my way to hike another trail site. I'm certainly glad I did. This park is named for Governor William Pope Duval and is in the county of Duval. (named for the same) Although the park entrance leaves one to believe there is really nothing down the one dirt gravel road, continue onward. You will find the park has been kept mostly in it's natural state but having some good wood planked hiking trails that will take you through beautiful woods to some ponds and lakes. If you like birding bring your binoculars. A couple of FYI of importance... wear and bring Off spray, have lots of water on hand, but know the only bathrooms are located at the entrance to the park. There are a few picnic tables but some are in need of repair.

Had high hopes for this park... four stocked fishing holes with room for small Jon boats with trolling motors. For awhile the city cleaned, mowed, and built walkways thru the space. But this park is falling into disrepair. There is a nice home for a policeman to live in and keep an eye on things... most of the wooden walk ways and dock has been stolen. Fish feeders are in disarray but the bar b que grills were still standing. This could really be a nice fishing park with some time and funding. Unfortunately it is on the west side and funds never find their way to jacksonvilles westside. Shame on you jacksonville!

This park would be a good place to teach a kid to fish - for bream. Make sure you have some very small hooks and a lot of bait. Be careful if it has rained because the roads are not maintained very well.
