Can't be bothered to update their website!
Mar 2016 • Family
We relied on the website for hours of operation and it said that the museum was open. After we got there, it turned out that the museum had been closed for a few weeks so that it could be renovated. I spoke to the curator who said that the folks in charge of the website refused to update it to say that the museum was currently closed and would be closed for several months. Knowing that the museum was closed would have saved us a trip to that part of town! Since we couldn't see the attraction, I've answered "not sure" to all of the recommendation questions. Who can tell what it would be like if the closest you can get is their tiny parking lot?

Temporarily Closing For Renovations
Sep 2015 • Couples
I toured this facility as part of the University of North Florida OLLI Program Edventure. The Fire Station that houses the museum was opened in May 1903, 10 months after the great Jacksonville fire that destroyed most of downtown and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is home to a fully restored 1902 horse drawn fire engine, a 1926 fire engine and hundreds pieces of fire fighting equipment, artifacts and memorabilia. The museum is free to the public and is open Tues through Sat from 9 AM to 4 PM. Guided tour lasted about 45 minutes. Unfortunately/fortunately the museum will shortly be closed for renovations that are expected to take 8-12 months. Once opened there will be expanded facilities and exhibits on display.

Every one in Jacksonville should visit, if for anything to show your support for our fire department! Great for school tours!

Great piece of history in Jacksonville

The museum is now open. They were turning over curators. It is usually open Tuesday through Saturday from 10-4. But it is advisable to call ahead due to events happening in the park that precludes the museum from opening. It is an amazing place to visit. I knew nothing about fire fighter history and I learned a lot. The curator, Ashley, knows everything about the artifacts and history. She made the trip worth while.

BE AWARE
Feb 2015 • Family
Website says Tu-Sat; Voice mail says Th & Sat, so we went Sat at 10:00. It's closed and locked with a notice saying that the hundred year old building was undergoing some maintenance work. It's now only accessible with appointments. It's very sad because they do have some good stuff in there. They are at least nice enough to put a firetruck outside of the building for the kids to admire and climb. Hope they will one day reopen it, at least for Sat.

Seems to be closed for good....

Note on the door says only open Friday-Saturday during limited hours. I was there on Saturday, 17-Jan during those hours and it was still closed, with a locked door. Too bad, was looking forward to this place and went out of my way to get there.

We had a great experience at the Jacksonville Fire Museum and highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about Jacksonville's history. Take your time looking at the various items included within the museum. Please note that the museum is currently open only two days a week. Call ahead to check on dates and times.

Checked the web site for hours said open M-F 9-5. Got the family with ,3 kids under 5, drove 20 mins to the fire house only to find a note on the door saying they are now only open Thursday-Sat. Maybe they should update their web page. The kids were very disappointed :-(
