A great museum for the whole family. Open on weekends and provides history of the Pikes Peak area, from gems to history of the frontier days.
Home of two of the largest quartz in North America.

Knowledgeable volunteers and worth a stop

We stopped here on the recommendation of the park rangers at Florissant Fossil Beds. We felt like it was a step back in time when we walked into the little museum. The displays are thoughtfully presented and we enjoyed our little tour. They have clothing, household items, documents, mining gear, some Ute clothing and drums, and a collection of stones. They have one of the largest smoky quartz stones in North America (439 pounds). There are interesting items and some local stones for sale in the gift shop. You also can buy shale from the quarry to open on your own if the Florissant Fossil Quarry is closed. Kids can select a free rock from a basket of local stones.

This is a great place, free too. The women that work there are a plethora of information. Definitely stop in their on your way to look at the fossils in the flats. Especially if you are rockhounds. I learned a lot about the different mineral and rocks in the area.

Awesome museum with lots of history of the area. Pioneer and mining items as well as Native American. Great souvenir gift items too. They have two smoky quartz crystals over four feet tall. The folks there are very friendly and knowledgeable, real sweethearts. They surely deserve whatever donation you can leave. If you are in the area I highly recommend that you give them a visit.

Great ladies volunteer their time in this free museum. There is a history in this area going back to the 1850s!

Found the background information on several aspects of the area both interested and well done. They have a free rock
Suvinere for kids, which made my child very happy. The ladies running it were super nice and helpful, if a tad overenthustic.
