Since opening in August 1988, Blackhawk Museums has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life. Other exhibitions on display include the Wheelchair Foundation Gallery and an exhibition of Juke Boxes from the Golden Age and vintage oil pumps.

I visited this place today with a good friend. We first went to the Wild West exhibit and it was really nice to see all of the exhibits and items of the old West. Next went to the car exhibit and that was fantastic. Plan on spending at least an hour and a half. We had lunch after in the... More

This Museum usually will house vintage cars, but show other exhibitions as well. It tucked in with the Blackhawk plaza, that also has great restaurants and shops. Plus an area for the kids to play and feed the ducks.

The museum exhibits stayed open late before the concert so we were able to come early and enjoy them. The concert was a lot of fun although the seating was somewhat confusing. I am not complaining since we were close enough to see the artist's hands working the keyboard

We visited the Blackhawk Museum to get a closer look at the Wild West exhibit and for a Christmas concert featuring pianist David Benoit. We loved the extensiveness and detail of the exhibit and the concert was exhilarating. We hope that more concerts of this kind will be brought to the museum!

The historic cars downstairs and the Wild West display upstairs offer something for everybody. The cars are not like the ones that you see at the local cruise in. These are historically significant, extremely rare, and perfectly restored examples. A car buff could spend hours lusting over the car display. The wild west display depicts many of the significant events... More

This was one of my son's favorite places for playtime. He was not so interested in the exhibit halls as he was in the playroom downstairs.

My lucky day! Danny Sullivan was giving a live talk the day I went. I live in Castro Valley and had never been to the museum before. I took an out-of-town guess there in Dec. Small but great collection of fine old cars, plus other artifact and displays, like a nice model train display and others. The other cool thing... More

What a fun night and great show - Xmas and Charlie Brown at the Blackhawk Auto Museum. David Benoit is a world-class pianist and Jane Monheit is a singer "par excellence"!!!

Been taking my grandsons last three years. Awesome model train display. Also includes entrance to the car museum. We spent several our hours touring the entire museum. The Western Museum display was incredible. The boys 10 and12 loved it. We go every December. Would honestly give it six stars if possible.
