A small museum with some interesting artifacts, but the key is the enthusiasm of the volunteers. If John is there you will love it!

If you want to get a feel for Hyde Park in the bygone days this is a stop you will want to make. Knowledgeable staff can help you. I recommend a Saturday or Sunday visit .

The movies, exhibits and displays in the library are terrific and well worth it. The tour is way over done, and the house is small and hard to move around. The entire house takes 10 minutes at most, and is nothing special. The guides do not even explain what the rooms are. But, to come to the library for free, walk the grounds, and enjoy the day, it was terrific!

Hours of this place are not too convenient for tourists. It is located right at the main street which is crossing this town.

The Hyde Park Historical Society Museum is located directly on Route 9 in Hyde Park and, if you don't know it's there, you could walk right past. If step through that door on Main Street, though, you walk directly into the past - and it's pretty fantastic.
The museum is one long room with a broader back room and is full of magnificent artifacts which have been donated by local families or acquired by the Town of Hyde Park Historical Society, a group of volunteers who run the museum. If you're interested in history of any kind you'll love this place but if you're a local history buff you will never want to leave it. They have an old voting booth, maps, books, pictures, artifacts, toys. There is so much to look at and the ladies who were there the day I went knew so much about their subject I could have spent the entire rest of the day there.
There is no charge to visit. The museum is open June-October Saturdays 10-2:00 and Sundays 1-4:00. Donations are welcome as the Historical Society needs funds to keep the museum going as well as further the programs they sponsor throughout the community. A great place to spend a day. Highly Recommended.
