Good morning battlefield tour with Hickory Farms. Would have been the two-hour 10AM tour but moved to 8:30 because of excessive heat; they didn't want us or the horses out in the 90s going to 100 degree temperatures. The horses were very cooperative and used to riders and proceeding in line. You could also tell the staff were very attuned to their animals and very much cared for how we interacted with them, and their comfort.
Our guide was excellent, giving us background, explaining the geography / topography and showing us how that affected the various parts of the battlefield we saw. There was also the local touches as we passed landmarks that happen to get in the way of the battle. If I have complaint it's that she spoke in a kind of monotone. Later on, after we were done, she was much more animated and excited as a few of us talked about additional details and the aftermath of the battle. Very worthwhile and lots of fun.
One note. If you're meeting the group at the McMillan Woods Youth Campground, take the turn off of W. Confederate Ave. that says McMillan Woods....Don't use the 124 W. Confederate Ave. address; it's down the road and doesn't do any good.

We went as a group of four. Hickory farms accommodated everyone from a seven year old to his grandmother with appropriate horses. My grandson got very nervous during the safety briefing but the staff was excellent; professional, clear directions with a kind firm manner was all he needed. As he fell asleep on the night of his ride he proclaimed "best weekend ever." Thank you Sarah, Pam, and particularly to the very kind lady who ensured that my grandson had a safe fun day.
The only way the tour could have been better was if the historical guide had given a condensed "Cliff Notes " version of the battle before going into great detail. I have read four books on Gettysburg and have an interest and still got bogged down in two hours of details (without the personalities of the generals being more prominent in his talk.) A great day. Thank you all!

Absolutely outstanding tour! Our family of 4 (2 adults, and 10 year old boy and a 15 year old girl) enjoyed every aspect of the tour. We appreciated that there were people from the stable at the front and the rear of the line to monitor the horses and riders. The ranger was not only very informative, he also brought history to life with stories and interesting facts. We took the 2 hour guided battlefield tour. Highly recommend!

They were great. The horses and riders were matched for compatibility. The wranglers with excellent the park guide was outstanding telling us stories and pointing out features that we needed to see while on the ride. They also took into account the forecasted weather and adjusted the time of day for the ride as it was forecasted to be very hot on our day. I would highly recommend them.

Hickory Hollow Farm is a master of the battlefield trail ride, knowing their super calm horses stand at the ready to transport even the youngest, the most novice, the oldest and the timid and the experienced rider through woods, along battlefield sites and safely back. Pam, her wranglers, the certified battlefield guide, every detail, the receivers and ear pieces to hear the commentary and the sights and sounds of the natural world make this trail ride a MUST DO for every visitor to Gettysburg. Bring big tip money, they are worth every dollar and much much more. Professional, fun, informative!

Had a good time. The weather was beautiful and the guide was quite good although a couple of times the reception on my headset was sketchy. The crew did a good job managing the group, most of whom were beginners and stopping traffic at busy intersections so everyone could cross safely. Typical stable horses, who can do their job in their sleep and know exactly where the halfway point is but that's fine on this type of ride. You don't by any means see the entire battlefield so I would make it part of your visit but not the whole visit.

We had an amazing experience on this tour. My mother and daughter (9) had never ridden before and they made them feel so comfortable. The rangers helped my daughter out when she need it and made it feel so proud of her self when she finished. The tour it self gave us a different perspective of the battlefield and we learned a lot of stories that came from the battle. Would highly recommend this to anyone!

Two rides with Hickory Hollow and we’ll come back for more. Excellent experience. As horse people and historians, we know horses and history and these folks have it right! Happy, healthy horses, well taken care of and they know their job. Super organized team. Everyone gets a horse who is right for them. Buddies go together, families go together. Everyone in the operation is helpful and friendly. They bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a safe, comfortable ride and can hear the guide at all times. (Headphones) It’s easy to book a ride and easy access to the starting point. Communication is excellent.

My partner and I took my senior dad on a 2 hour tour as a Father's Day gift. Pam contacted us the day before our tours because she was watching the rain forecast. She was very communicative and we moved our spots to another day - with perfect weather - without issue.

We enjoyed the experience and it created a great memory for the 3 of us. We are beginning riders. We appreciated the step stool to get on/off the horses and we felt safe because a handler helped us get on and off the horses. The horses were very well behaved and mannered. You can tell that Pam and her staff are experienced with horses and the varying skill levels of riders.

Growing up near Gettysburg, we've all visited the sights before, but this was a new perspective! It was magical listening to the tour guide knowing that we were passing through on our horses in the same spots as horseback soldiers.

The only thing we'd do different is take a shorter tour. Not because we weren't loving it, but because we were getting sore from riding. We spent the full 2 hours on the horses. (Other places we've been count 30 minutes of the tour time to go over rules, etc. At Hickory Hollow, you arrive 30 minutes early so it doesn't cut into your tour!) By far this was the most memorable tour I've ever had of Gettysburg.

Pam is the best. Knowledgeable, friendly, professional. The horses are wonderful, well maintained, groomed and mannered. The tour is beautiful and goes the full time alotted not cut short like some tours I have been on in the past.
I have been twice, inviting different friends. I will continue to book tours and tell others about my great experience with Hickory Hollow Horse Battlefield Tours
