- SHARON J1 contributionA great way to tour the BattlefieldThis was our third horseback tour with Hickory Hollow Tours. Pam is an excellent host and a wonderful caretaker of her beloved horses. Each of our rides had a different tour guide that offered different information with a flare of humor mixed in. I would highly recommend riding with Pam. you won't be disappointed with the two hours spent on a horse. A wonderful way to see the Battlefield!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 23, 2023
- Lauren DMiddle River, Maryland6 contributionsWowza! Best Battlefield Ride ever! What wonderful horses, guides. wranglers and owner! The owner, Pam, met us at the departure point and very congenially, then covered a number of safety procedures, ending with a cheery "Bon Voyage!" Sarah then taught us some very important facts about equine behavior... The views really WERE stunning and the guide, mesmerizing clear through the earbuds. Jess was the best 'drag rider' EVER keeping us all on the straight and narrow with the occasional, "Pull on your right rain and squeeze with your left leg!" to keep Sunny and Teddy Bear from wandering onto the grass for a snack 😁Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 8, 2024
- Ssss3 contributionsGreat time!Pam at Hickory Hollow Farms was very communicative. She always responded promptly to my texts/emails. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride! We had 6 of our granddaughters with us. Their ages were ranging from 12-16 Our groups skill level was from very knowledgeable and skilled in riding- to no experience in riding. They chose horses appropriate for each person. The guide was knowledgeable We had a wonderful day!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 13, 2024
- Dreamer182355002701 contributionTop Notch! As horse owners ourselves, we have knowledge of equestrian facilities, and this organization is top notch! The horses were in excellent condition, well trained, and seemed to enjoy their job. The ride was very well organized, and Pam and her wranglers were diligent about providing a safe ride. Our licensed tour guide was so impressive! Her fascinating narrative drew us into the world of that time and helped us imagine what it might have been like to be an individual experiencing the horror of this battle.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 21, 2024

- Karen HGettysburg, Pennsylvania12 contributionsAMA ing tourWonderful your. We had a great time and learned a lot. This tour has very informative and caring employees. They took a lot of care with matching horses to riders. The tour guide was easy to understand and brought everything to life. As you were riding and her she was talking I could see the battles before me. Great job! Highly recommend.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 18, 2024
- Bridgette C2 contributionsAmazing experience! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They made sure to match the horse with the person. The horses were very well trained with excellent temperaments; good for experienced or first-time riders. It is an experience well worth it!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 10, 2024
- mrbp03Gaithersburg, Maryland2 contributionsGreat Family Horseback Ride!We had an amazing ride with Pam and her team! My biggest concern was keeping my kids safe and having a good time, and Pam and her wranglers were right on the same page. We had a blast, and want to go back next year. Our tour guide was also excellent - his retelling of the Battle of Gettysburg was enjoyable, and I appreciated his assistance with instructing us on the horses.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 31, 2024
- Debbie P1 contributionSummertime horsing around in GettysburgHickory Hollow came highly recommended by a family member who had a great horseback riding experience on the Confederate side of the Gettysburg battlefield with them. We originally booked our ride 2.5 weeks in advance for 12:30 pm and the day before, Hickory called to see if we could go earlier due to severe heat/humidity so their horses could be done earlier. That shows genuine concern for their horses! We were able to reschedule to 9:00 am and had a fantastic time! All of the staff got us set up and made sure we (riders and horses) were safe from start to finish. The ride to and from the sites was totally cool and the earlier start time was the right move on that hot/humid day. For a unique Gettysburg horseback riding experience, be sure to go with Hickory Hollow Farms.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 13, 2024
- Paul B1 contributionHighlight of our tripCouldn’t have been better!! Horses, Wranglers and Guide all excellent! Highly recommend it ! Everyone went out of their way to make sure that the riders had a safe and enjoyable experience. I must say that it was a surreal experience to ride along the same ground where so many men fought and died.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 29, 2024

Good morning battlefield tour with Hickory Farms. Would have been the two-hour 10AM tour but moved to 8:30 because of excessive heat; they didn't want us or the horses out in the 90s going to 100 degree temperatures. The horses were very cooperative and used to riders and proceeding in line. You could also tell the staff were very attuned to their animals and very much cared for how we interacted with them, and their comfort.
Our guide was excellent, giving us background, explaining the geography / topography and showing us how that affected the various parts of the battlefield we saw. There was also the local touches as we passed landmarks that happen to get in the way of the battle. If I have complaint it's that she spoke in a kind of monotone. Later on, after we were done, she was much more animated and excited as a few of us talked about additional details and the aftermath of the battle. Very worthwhile and lots of fun.
One note. If you're meeting the group at the McMillan Woods Youth Campground, take the turn off of W. Confederate Ave. that says McMillan Woods....Don't use the 124 W. Confederate Ave. address; it's down the road and doesn't do any good.

Absolutely outstanding tour! Our family of 4 (2 adults, and 10 year old boy and a 15 year old girl) enjoyed every aspect of the tour. We appreciated that there were people from the stable at the front and the rear of the line to monitor the horses and riders. The ranger was not only very informative, he also brought history to life with stories and interesting facts. We took the 2 hour guided battlefield tour. Highly recommend!

They were great. The horses and riders were matched for compatibility. The wranglers with excellent the park guide was outstanding telling us stories and pointing out features that we needed to see while on the ride. They also took into account the forecasted weather and adjusted the time of day for the ride as it was forecasted to be very hot on our day. I would highly recommend them.

Probably one of the nicest paid trail rides I've ever been on. The horses were extremely well behaved and cared for. The owner is very knowledgeable and took much care in matching horses and riders. There was a safety check during the ride for loose girths and equipment. Good direction on how to ride was given to new riders. The trails through the battefield were very nice, and if you choose the guide option he is very knowledgeable. I've honestly never seen a stable this well organized with well cared for horses. Definitely worth it....you get to see part of the battlefields you wouldn't get to see just driving by.

Two rides with Hickory Hollow and we’ll come back for more. Excellent experience. As horse people and historians, we know horses and history and these folks have it right! Happy, healthy horses, well taken care of and they know their job. Super organized team. Everyone gets a horse who is right for them. Buddies go together, families go together. Everyone in the operation is helpful and friendly. They bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a safe, comfortable ride and can hear the guide at all times. (Headphones) It’s easy to book a ride and easy access to the starting point. Communication is excellent.

Pam and her crew were amazing. It was my twins birthday, they went above and beyond with everyone wishing my boys a Happy Birthday and making their horses just a little bit extra fancy. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. You can tell by the way they interact with the horses, that they truly care about them. Thank you for teaching us a little history, giving us a great ride, and allowing us to bring in "13" in a truly unique way.

Hickory Hollow Farm is a master of the battlefield trail ride, knowing their super calm horses stand at the ready to transport even the youngest, the most novice, the oldest and the timid and the experienced rider through woods, along battlefield sites and safely back. Pam, her wranglers, the certified battlefield guide, every detail, the receivers and ear pieces to hear the commentary and the sights and sounds of the natural world make this trail ride a MUST DO for every visitor to Gettysburg. Bring big tip money, they are worth every dollar and much much more. Professional, fun, informative!

Hickory Hollow did an absolutely incredible job in terms of managing the horses and we really enjoyed our ride. We had a great guide who really knew his stuff, and I actually felt like a two-hour trip went way too fast. Thanks again for a great ride!

What a great experience !!! Our guide was extremely informative about the events and history of the Battle of Gettysburg. The horses and handlers were excellent, it was my first time on a horse and I felt comfortable after only a short time. I'm a big guy and my horse, "Big Moe" was perfect for me. I will definitely take this horse tour again !!!

I’m thinking about doing the tour with my 15 year old daughter and 2 of her friends on Saturday March 21st. We all have no riding experience. Would we each have a horse?
Written March 12, 2020
Each rider has their own horse that the wranglers have matched with riders considering size, experience, etc. Our guide and wranglers were awesome. The horses were very well trained. Go and have a great time!

Can we bring our own saddles? My wife gets sore riding western and usually rides a wintec English saddle.

This is Pam from Hickory Hollow answering your question. We have our own saddles and they are very comfortable the only reason you cannot bring yours is our saddles are specifically made for each horse to ensure no saddle sores. All of their saddles are very comfortable we have never had any complaints about that. Come ride with us and find out for yourself. ! Thanks
