The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

This park is very well done. The National Park Service has done exceptionally well to make this history accessible to us. The museum gives an excellent overview that puts the battle into context: before, during and after July 1863. To really see the battlefield, get a guided tour. It is definitely worth the price. Get a guide through the Association... More

There was a family connection to the monuments on the battle field. A cousin was the sculptor of several. It was fun to track them down and admire the work. As a history buff visit was enjoyable. Self guided tour provided by B&B staying at was easy enough to follow as well as signage along the way. CD is obviously... More

M/y wife and I visited the Gettysburg National Military Park in July, and again in October of 2015. The US Government have been doing an excellent job trying to make the battlefield look like it did during the July 1-3, 1863 battle (using old photos, journals, etc., to recontour the land to make it look like it did back in... My husband and I woke up extra early so we could get an early start for the battlefield. We couldn't believe how fast the visitor center fills up!! Be prepared for crowds there! As we left there and drove onto the battlefield, I was left speechless. It is such a beautiful place that is so humbling, quite honestly. There was... More

Seek out Ranger Troy Hartman for a battlefield tour. I posted a review but didn't include his name. So knowledgeable and engaging! Best guide ever and we have travelled a lot and had great guides. Troy is best in class.

Gettysburg is fun for the whole family if you are a history buff. Other than history, hiking, and good food - not much to do. People are very friendly and landscape is beautiful. I would recommend avoiding bike week or July 4th week as it is way to over crowded. Lived in Gettysburg for more than 50 years and truly... More

Every American should see this national treasure. We took a bus tour and our guide was excellent. We learned so much about the Battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War. Seeing the countryside and hearing our guide tell about each battle really brought the war to life.

This was just about the best day ever! History came alive thanks to our wonderful guide, Ted Gajewski! If you go, get a private guide - it's well worth the planning and money. And Ted is the cream of the crop! He gave us a 4 1/2 tour of the park, hitting all the highlights. After the tour, we had... More
