This was my favorite moment in our visit to Central City, Philadelphia. The view is amazing, the guide, I think his name is Gale, gave us a lot of information of sites we could visit in that day. He recommended places to visit for eating, and historical sites. We bought the tickets online and we saved a little on the purchase. Overall it’s a must visit location.

I was so happy to take a tour of the city from a bird's eye view. The bar on the deck was a nice place to enjoy a drink. Philly Fred was there to show me around and his explanations made my trip!

The idea is great, and I love observation decks. But covid makes everyone so stressed out and angry. So try telling young children to not run or yell or climb the railings. Then also to put their mask over their nose and don’t get so close to the other people. And if you think you could maybe ease up on the poor kids because there are no people at all up there with you, forget it. The staff are more than happy to point out that your kids aren’t being perfect. In a completely empty observation deck. So yeah. Not worth it.

We were in Philly for the Flower Show and we wanted to see the entire city from above. It wasn’t busy at all and you really got some great views. Wish we could have stayed until sunset. We enjoyed all the extra info that Philly Phred gave us!

No one knew if it is open. The web site says that it is closed, but later said it was open. We called the phone number on the web site, and the number is disconnected

Every major city has a list of “must see” attractions, and this is one of them for Philadelphia. It is such a beautiful city to begin with, and seeing it from an elevated perspective only adds to its charm. You have spectacular views of the city, and some landmarks look especially photo-worthy from that height, such as City Hall, the Ben Franklin Bridge, and the neighboring skyscrapers. For the fun of it, see how many rooftop pools you can locate!
There is a 75-second elevator ride to the observation deck. A brief video is shown during the ride. The elevator is large, and I would estimate that it can hold 40-50 people, depending on how many young people and children are on it. (If I recall correctly, it has a 7,000 pound capacity.) I would therefore think that moving people to and from the observation deck would run at a fairly good pace when it gets crowded.
I had purchased The Philadelphia Pass and used this attraction as one of my choices. You don’t save a substantial amount of money, but every bit helps.
Helpful Things to Know:
1) Your admission ticket is good for a second visit on the same day! The woman at the admissions desk informed us that we could come back in the evening to take in the night views at no cost.
2) I asked one of the staff members if there was a typical day of the week and/or time of day when the observation deck gets especially crowded. He said that morning was the best time to visit. We went there in the morning shortly after it opened on a late June Tuesday, and there were relatively few people there, so his observation was accurate.
3) Before riding up to the top you can get your picture taken in front of a green screen backdrop so that when you go back down your picture is waiting for you. In the finished photo, the Philly skyline is digitally added behind you: one daytime and one sunset/dusk. The photo is a 5 x 7 that costs $15.00 for one and $20.00 for two. The photo also includes a code so you can download the images from their website. Considering that it’s a tourist trap kind of thing, it’s actually not a bad deal. Yes, we took advantage of it.
4) There are a few touchscreen monitors on the observation deck so you can locate specific buildings, places, and landmarks.
5) There are restrooms available at the top. They are clean and very well maintained.
6) There is a souvenir coin machine at the top—the kind that rolls out a penny with your choice of four different designs. So be prepared and have some new, shiny pennies with you. There is a change machine there, but it dispenses quarters only. It costs 51 cents for each design: 50 cents plus the penny you are going to roll out with the design.
7) There is a tubular metal guard rail along the perimeter of each side at the top. For the brave of heart, each side has a cut-out section that allows visitors to walk right up to the window.
8) There are some tables and chairs and a few benches at the top.
9) There is a gift shop on the ground level. When visitors exit the elevator after coming down from the top, they have to pass through it to exit the building. Yes, of course this is intentional!

So Philly From the Top may not be the highest point in Philadelphia but do you really want to give more of your hard earned money to Comcast? Instead you are going to go 57 stories up or 883 feet in the air to see Philly from a different perspective. Some say the price is a bit steep for this perspective but it's right on par with other observation decks in the world - it's cheaper than a view from US Air and what a view it is. You can see New Jersey which isn't saying much, Delaware, and on a good day New York. And if the view isn't good enough they have these over sized tablets/ipads that you can zoom in all parts of the city so you can identify what you are looking at through the glass - hey there's the rocky statue, there's the place the Flyers lost their last shot at the cup, why did Washington cross that river in a boat, with that much pollution he could have walked across, Hey there's route 76 isn't that how they got the name of their basketball team?
So take a break from Schuylkill driving and park yourself in the clouds...even if you only do it once in your life it is worth a visit to waved down to William Penn.

Came here just to fill time before checking in. The views were nice but it’s a bit boring once you walk around half of it. Went during covid so social distancing is a thing, and they are being cautious of that even during the elevator ride up. Would I go again, no.

We’ll be there during the Pink Invitational February 22-23, while I’m sure it will be quite busy does everyone get a chance to take pictures of the view unobstructed by other viewers? My daughter is a gymnast coming in for the meet and we’d love a posed shot...(already bought our 2day tickets)... 😊 is there a best time to come?
Written February 10, 2020
There will be plenty of space to move around on the 57th floor. The best time to come for the view is at sunset. The best time to come to avoid lines is earlier in the morning.

Any suggestions for parking to be able to hit both the liberty bell and the observation deck in one stop?

We will be in there Monday June 18. Probably around 6:30-7:00 in the evening. Are timed tickets advisable?? Can you buy timed tickets online? And where?? The Philly From the Top website doesn't say anything about timed tickets. They just sell regular tickets
Written May 24, 2018
Hi there. We do not currently have timed tickets.

What are their hours in April? Their website says in the fall/winter they're open until 8 pm, but nothing about spring or summer.
Written January 18, 2018
I do not have that information available. I wish I could be of more assistance.
Written February 19, 2018
If I purchase a ticket from TripAdvisor, can we enter at any time or are there specific times? When purchasing the tickets, it isn't prompting for a time as it does on the web site for the Observation Deck.
Written April 22, 2016
When we were there you can go up anytime unless it's at full capacity it's just a big observation room with Windows tables and chairs so if people just sit up there you have to wait for some to leave
