I flew into Philly for the day to see the play Choir Boy at the Philadelphia theater company. The play was excellent and we were equally impressed with theater. The sound was excellent, no seat was a bad seat, the set set design was simple yet functional and satisfyingly appointed. There was a small art exhibit on the upper level that we enjoyed before the play began. I was really impressed with the theater and the production.

I've been to several plays at this playhouse and I have never been disappointed. The acoustics are great and there are no bad seats. The design is beautiful. I highly recommend visiting this location.

My wife and I saw a show put on by the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus. We very much enjoyed the experience, it was a lot of fun. The venue was very nice, comfortable chairs, more leg room than usual for a theater and the acoustics were first rate. It is also located in a good area of Philadelphia with plenty of restaurants and shopping all around.

Arrived at my hotel (Doubletree Philly City Center, see my review) a 7:40 p.m. and decided to give Broad Street the "double 'o.'" (That's the "once over.")
I followed some folks, mostly dressed to the nines, into the Kimmel Center where The Danish Quartet was playing. I wasn't in the mood for classical, so I headed back out on Broad Street and followed another, less-well-dressed but smaller crowd to the PTC. I found my way into the lobby, where I saw a lobby card for "Mothers and Sons" with Michael Learned in the cast.
"Seriously?" I thought? "The mom from the Waltons...here, live?"
It turns out I was there for an "open dress rehearsal" and admission was "what you could pay."
Wow. An ordinary, cold night after a long day of travel became a magical evening. The play, itself, is strong with a Tony nomination and the small cast (of four) includes, I am certain, future stars. And Mrs. Learned was wonderful and Andre's mother.
This is an intimate theatre with few, if any, bad seats. Future visits to Philly will include a stop here, again, to see what is playing at this great venue. Very conveniently located, for sure.

Like many arts organizations, PTC has seen its share of financial issues over the last couple of years. However, press descriptions of its situation were at best exaggerated. The Company remains a vital part of the theater scene in Philadelphia and has rich relationships with playwrights (Terrence McNally, among others) and actors which lead to great experiences for its audiences. Several major award winning plays usually make up part of the season with premieres of dramas and comedies and the occasional musical mixed in.
The Artistic Director has been with Company for many years and is very approachable as well as knowing just about everyone who's anyone in the theater world.
The theater is just a few years old with very good acoustics and appropriately sized seats. We usually look for seats in the first row of the balcony since we like being able to see the full set design as well as enjoying the overall viewing angle.
Also, try and get a night when they have a post-performance talk-back with the performers. These are usually run by their knowledgeable and articulate dramaturge. These encounters always provide insights into the productions that are otherwise unavailable.
All in all, a reasonably priced and meaningful way to spend an evening in Center City Philadelphia.

The Susanne Roberts Theater is on the verge of being sold due to non- payment by the Philadelphia Theater Company. Unfortunately, the productions have been excellent in the past but the company didn't keep up with needed payments.

I will make this short and to the point. If you miss any broadway play and it arrives here do go see it! The staff is pleasant and this theatre has very comfortable seats are spacious. I enjoyed everything about my experience here at this theatre. Let me comment on parking which is located across the street if you care to pay $10, they also have indoor parking next to the theatre im not sure what their rates are.

The new location of The Philadelphia Theatre Company is at Broad and Lombard Streets.
Philadelphia is fortunate to have a wonderful theater scene. Each place is unique in what it offers.
The PTC most often gives us a chance to see plays from Off Broadway that we might have missed and uses actors from everywhere. Sometimes they also use local actors.
Their version of Reasons to Be Pretty by Neil LaBute, which I just saw, was cast and played perfectly.
One of the best things I ever saw there was the play I Am A Man. I expected it to be didactic. It turned out to be immensely moving and the lead gave us an epic performance.
Because it is so impressive, the PTC often is given the privilege to premiere plays which then go on to have a life in NYC.
Serious theater with quality casting. I recommend the PTC to anyone who appreciates good theater.

We saw a production of Denis and Katya by the Philadelphia Opera at this theatre and it worked very well. The seating is comfortable with ample leg room, the venue is not stuffy and the acoustics seemed good. I would gladly return.

First of all, you cannot miss the electric entrance to this dynamic space. It glimmers on Broad Street, catching your eye with promise. The lobby area is inviting and offers an air of possibility - the past, tradition and future of a titanic force of the creative scene of Philadelphia.
I attended the "See and Be Seen" evening of excerpts of plays and musicals in consideration for their 2018/2019 season in November. I felt a real sense of community in entering the theater space. A bold, inventive evening offering audience members real interaction and participation - we all got a voice in helping to create a dynamic season.
I have been privy to the NYC theater scene for over 15 years and my standards are high when it comes to performances. The future of PTC, reminds me of NY's Playwrights Horizons, paving the way for bold new works and involving many local Philly artists the chance to shine. With the new artistic director in place, I cannot wait to see the next season in action.
