Located id two former downtown " town houses of wealthy Philadelphians" The Curtis features many student concerts by some of the country's finest young musical talent. Classes are taught by the cities finest musical performers including many current and former members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Stop in for a calendar of events, most of which are free to the public.

The Curtis Institute is America's most selective higher learning institution (3.2% admissions rate) and trains students in music and/or opera who are musically gifted. All students attend on full scholarships. One can buy tickets to one of the institute's more formal events or attend any Student Recital Series for free.

The Curtis Institute is one of the premier music schools for classical musicians in the US, and is located just off Rittenhouse SquareDuring the year (excluding the summer), it offers a series of free student performances. The performances are in Field Concert Hall, which does not have a bad seat and is visually a treat, being richly lined with wood.

Was there on 5/31/2015 for my daughter's recital. AC was not working. Music hall air quality was bad and my younger daughter started coughing because of dust. Even I had experienced it. Rest rooms were very old and not that clean. Parking is very limited, behind the hall and is very expensive even on Sunday! Regarding staff, when I asked... More

The Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music is a true classical setting to enjoy concert hall quality music in a very intimate 240 seat auditorium. The main building which houses the Field Concert Hall is part of a 19th-century mansion that is worth a visit alone so that you may fully appreciate its wood-paneled walls, ornate moldings,... More

Beautiful building and most important - superb musicians. Get a copy of the student concert listings and go to one or two. They are free and the quality of playing is exceptional. If you love music you should go to the Curtis!

We were in Philadelphia on business and learned Curtis Institute Opera was performing Tchaikovsky's seldom-performed "Iolante" in a concert version, so we ordered tickets. The performance was beautiful in every way - musically superb, with fantastic singers who brought the fairy tale story to life, and a highly skilled student orchestra. Although it wasn't fully staged, there was enough movement,... More

Housed in two converted adjoining mansions as well as a number of other nearby buildings, Curtis Institute is a world class educational institution. It is terrific to be able to enjoy free performances by the students who are all near the top of their field despite still being considered students. Arrive at least 1/2 hour early to be sure to... The Curtis Institute was founded by the Curtis family, owners and publishers, among other things, of the Saturday Evening Post. It is considered to be one of the top musical conservatories in the world, counting among its alumni Leonard Bernstein, composer of the score for West Side Story; Samuel Barber, composer of the Adagio for Strings; Giancarlo Menotti, composer of...
