Our group from Virginia enjoyed a blessed pilgrimage to this shrine. It adjoins St Peter the Apostle Church and the crypt is in the lower church where we had mass. Redemptorist Fr Peter gave us a very nice tour and explained the life of St John Neumann and the how so many prayers are answered here. We also passed through... More

A place of serenity and peacefulness in the busy city. The Atrium provides a welcoming atmosphere. St. John Neumann is in the crypt under the altar in the Lower Shrine Church. Many pilgrims visit and ask for their prayers to be answered through the intercession of St. John Neumann, a Redemptorist priest who was the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia. If... More

I had never seen the body of a Saint before. As a Catholic , this was a very moving experience.. However I would have liked a tour or some kind, or self tour with audio headset available that explained his life, the meaning of the stain glass, the cannonization process. I read all that and tried to relay to others... More

We saw the national shrine for the patron saint of our local church and knew it was fate that put us in this location. We visited on a Saturday and it was quite busy during a Noon mass. We returned at 3 PM and there were still twenty people praying the rosary in the church. while we saw St. John... More

The recently renovated Shrine of St. John Neumann is very nice. His tomb is in the lower crypt of the Parish Church of St. Peter the Apostle. If you have children with you, you may want to prepare them to see the saint in his glass coffin under the alter. You can see the personal effects and other relics of... More

Really nice place. Loved the story they gave for the Saint and how he got to be there. Beautiful church! If you like this kind of things then def stop by. They have a gift shop and it takes about 1 hour to listen to the story and go to gift shop and take some pictures. Iyoli

Before our arrival to the shrine; I wrote an e mail to inquire about an itinerary and to ask about parking availability, best time visit, etc... as we had traveled from Miami, FL. I never received a return response. I also called; but was greeted by voicemail. I left my full contact information anticipating a return call; but to no... More

My father and I visited the Shrine and its gift shop and attended Sunday Mass there prior to lunch at Pat's King of Steaks! The Redemptorists who run the Shrine have been doing good since 1732 in Italy and elsewhere and we both wanted to see the burial place of Saint John Neumann, the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia and a... Visited the Shrine of St John Neumann on Good Friday. Found the experience really inspiring. We came away very impressed with the Saint, esp. his incredible work for the RC Church and Catholic Schools in the States. The Shrine adjoins the imposing St Joseph Apostle Church on 5th and Girard, an easy drive from Center City. Parking is available next... More

You'll probably have to take a taxi to get here, and you'll probably have to call for a taxi to get back to wherever you're staying. So have a taxi's phone number ready. This isn't the best part of town, but it's probably not the worst either. There's a flower shop across the street where they seem to have a... More
