I can't believe this is rated so low on the top things to do in Philly and we knew nothing about it!! Maybe it's because it's primarily child centred, but I cannot recommend it enough. The benches are dotted around the historical areas, the storytellers...More

We had a great time with this activity. We stopped at as many sites as time permitted. I would recommend week days versus weekends. We went on a Saturday and lines were long and the area was crowded, but I am very glad we toured...More

We saw the story tellers of once upon a nation first at Valley Forge National Park. Their stories were so unique, not what you heard in history class. They were told with such animation and were really fun and interesting. Great for children to hear...More

We found the "Once upon a nation" story benches all around Philadelphia and so enjoyed getting to hear some unknown stories about the area, the history and the people. All of the story tellers were great - dramatic, interactive and knowledgeable. Take the time to...More

Unaccompanied by any children, four of us stopped at a "Once Upon a Nation" bench to hear a story. We figured that - if nothing else -- we would have only invested 5 minutes or so. The storytellers and the storyies told were EXCELLENT. We...More

I accidentally sat on 2 of the "Once upon a nation" benches and then a storyteller appears. They have a different story and history facts at each location. This is great for the kids, as they give them a flag and have to get a...More

I love the story book benches. The kids will enjoy collecting stickers at each bench, and even Mom and Dad will get a kick out of the stories. The story tellers are kind and friendly, and are willing to answer questions. Great for a day...More

The people they have at these stations do a wonderful job bringing the stories to life. They offer a fan after the presentation and you get a star at each station and collecting all of them gets you a discount on an attraction. One of...More

While traveling around Philadelphia, stop at the benches and wait for the story. The story tellers are enthusiastic and well versed and their tales are historically significant. Best part other than the story: no tipping is allowed!

These are the most fun!!! The individuals who are at each bench are excellent!! They tell a wonderful story and are great actors. They do not operate on Sundays or Mondays and their hours the rest of the days are from 11-4. We went to...More
