The free self-guided tour is informative and not very long. NO PICTURES in the building at all. I would prefer to pay and have a tour guide though. My husband loved it, but it was sometimes difficult to understand and locate certain things without reading...More

Perhaps my review might be biased because I have also done the tour of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving in Washington, DC (which I found outstanding) but I found this tour pretty boring. I guess I was expecting more. It is totally self-guided and...More

Very few details of the how's and why's of coin minting are here. The museum is tiny but you do get to see coins minted. If you're in the area and have nothing else to do, go read a book on coin minting. Skip the...More

Wasn't sure if it would be interesting or dull, turns out it is very much the former. End to end process explained and you can see the Mint in action. A couple of hours well spent.

The United States mint in Philadelphia is a great attraction I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There is a photo ID requirement and a security check before entering. There is no charge for this place. It's easy to get around escalators and restrooms in the gift...More

This is a fun and fascinating place to visit and it's free. This self-guided tour takes you through the entire process of minting coins-from concept to the coins in your pocket. Information is presented on wall plaques and on touch-screen computers throughout. Windows high above...More

I wasn't too impressed. It is a self guided tour with lots of reading. You don't see much but coins moving on a conveyor belt. I went around 9:45 walked right in. I did spend the time and read almost everything but by the time...More

We toured the mint in about 45 minutes, and time was very well spent; even with just 2 1/2 days in Philly, this is a great self-guided tour. You walk above in glass-enclosed walkways over the Mint floor, which is like a very large factory;...More

Is there a minting schedule available so that you can find out if coins will be being produced when you are visiting? Or, does anyone know if coins are minted on Saturdays? Or on Saturdays of holiday weekends?

They work around the clock. However, whether there is a lot of people working on the production floor or not will not impact the value of your visit.

No tickets, but when you go up you get in line and the adults show their photo id's and then the guard lets you in. Then you go through a metal detector and have to put all your belongings on a conveyor belt to be scanned.

No tickets required. If your schedule is flexible, keep an eye on their schedule as they do not operate the machinery 7 days a week. It's much more interesting if you go on a day they are working.
