I have been walking the streets of Philadelphia for some years now, photographing what I have found. In that time, I've discovered a lot of interesting things in the nooks and crannys of the city. As I walked past the Old Tavern, I came upon The Merchants Exchange Building which avoided my attention until recently. The exterior is what is of greatest interest as shown in the photo that I have supplied. I know nothing of the interior except by what has been written by others about a display on the first floor. For me, the exterior is the prize as is the extensive cobblestone courtyard.

Beautiful architecture, a historic site/landmark. This building is located at the Independence National Historic Park. Several museums in this area. You can totally spend a whole day. They are all walking distance to each other.

The Merchants Exchange Building was built in 1832-34 in the Greek revival style to handle the need of the growing business community, becoming the home of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange by 1875. It is America's oldest stock exchange building and now is the headquarters for the Independence National Historical Park. It has a beautiful semi-circle façade in the rear flowing along Dock Street, one of the few non grid streets in William Penn's original plans. There is a public exhibit on the 1st floor that sites the buildings history and preservation.
