If you like trying different foods and have two to three hours to burn, I would go!
My wife is a foodie and wanted to stop in. We had a great time trying different food, drinks, and desserts with our kids. It was packed and seating was limited. It reminded me of what Lexington Market in Baltimore was like in the 80s, which was pretty cool back then. If you want to try different foods and are happy walking around and waiting in line, then I would suggest it. Next time we go to Philadelphia, we will definitely return (but stay in a hotel closer). I would not put this down as a "must do" but if you have a few hours, I would encourage you to check it out.

    Totally awesome foodie experience
I am so glad a previous Philly visitor told me about this market. It is so fabulous, it boggles my mind. I went there twice with a friend and it was always busy. But totally worth the wait. I couldn't believe the variety of fresh produce and meat and all the ethnic restaurants. Staggers my imagination for sure. The first day, my friend & I ate food from the country of Georgia and then brought back Korean pancakes. The next day, my friend had a Philly cheesesteak and I had Greek. I also bought a bialy and my friend bought gingerbread and I bought candy. I don't think you could ever be bored going here. We were fortunate to be within walking distance from our hotel. I wish this were in my backyard.

A neat place to find a variety of food
Just visiting the market can be a little overwhelming at first. I was glad for all of the variety. We tried different things, like a pork sandwich from DiNics, salmon curry from Little Thai Market, milkshake from Bassett's and a random smoothie from somewhere. The next morning we tried Beiler's for doughnuts and coffee. In my opinion, some food was overhyped (DiNic's), so it may be best to wander around and see what interests you without reading a ton of reviews first (which I am guilty of). There are too many options to try in one day, so I think it's a great place to visit to find something to satisfy everyone in the group.

    Want food? They got it!
Word of advice: If you go and there is an event at the Philadelphia Convention Center next door, DON'T. You will not like the experience. The first time I entered this place was a midday lunch on a Sunday which also happened to be the first day of an event. It was wall to wall people and it was a challenge to get anywhere, let alone order anything. Put it this way, I'm not sure if it was a fire hazard but it sure seemed like it. We went the following morning as well as the late afternoon a couple of days later and the atmosphere was a bit more manageable. It was a heck of a lot more pleasant then. The food choices and cuisine were amazing. Want some noodles? Its there. Want some Louisiana gator? Chomp away. Feel like a kebabs and gyros? All that greasy goodness is around. Heck if you want a sugar rush you can get cookies and ice cream from some really good spots. If youre lucky enough to grab a table and chair to eat then great, if not, your best bet is to just take it back to the convention center or your hotel room if you're lucky enough to get one nearby. It wont get any awards for a gourmet experience but there is something to offer for everyone.

    Local Market on Steroids
This is a huge market that has fresh meats, produce, and foods along with restaurants, bakeries, specialty foods, and a few gift shops. It's a lot of fun to walk through and see it all. Go hungry because there are so many options, and it all looks really good.

    So many choices
So many great choices, great variety. It closes early, by 5 many places closed, but I understand market really slows. Limited places to sit. I got to go and went back to hotel. If new to place, explore before ordering.

    Food lovers paradise
A Philadelphia landmark and a must do on any visit to the Center City area. It’s a large and bustling indoor market with a large variety of vendors selling every food, snack and dessert you could want. Even if not there to eat, it’s a fun place to stroll and take in the sights and smells. We sampled food from several different places and enjoyed it all. Kismet Bialys was especially good.

    Still humming along strong!
This is seriously one of the funnest places to go to in Philly. The sheer amount of vendors and over the counter food places is overwhelming. The market bustles during breakfast and lunch but activity dies down in the late afternoon. I like Herschel’s East Side for their pastrami and corn beef sandwiches. Also the fruit stand near the back is very nice. Was dead set on getting an Amish breakfast at Dutch Eating Place on Sunday but forgot they were closed - darn!

    So much variety.
So much variety. I so wished I had the ability cook while there, so many fresh meats, veg, fruit and seafood. I had breakfast 3 times and dinner one night. I bought some chocolates and salami to bring home. Cheesecake with cherries from Beilers, coffee from Old City and ice cream. Only wish I could have figured out how to bring home some pastries. Not too busy in morning, most places closed around 5pm so go early if you want to pick up something for supper.

Food, desserts, fresh meat, awesome food market
Something for everyone. Lots of vendors, a very neat experience. Whether you want to eat lunch, breakfast, a snack or gift, they have it all. There’s seating to eat and everyone can get what they want. Everything we tested was great.

The market is open 8am to 6pm 7 days a week but check their listing to hours for individual stands. Sees that a number of shops are closed and quite a few close early. A good bet to pick up something quick to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They have shops that sell meats, cheese, bread, pastries, pies, donuts. Also a number of different ethnicities represented and their foods.

It can get very crowded and there is minimal space for sitting. If you are looking for a quite meal this is not the place.

I would specifically recommend : Hershel's East Side Deli (hugh sandwiches include pastrami, turkey, brisket, corn beef, bagels, lox, etc.; and Beiler's Donuts and Salads

Nice food court with produce, vegetable and fruit. There are seating area with plastic divider to prevent covid transmission. IMO, the food is overpriced as well as parking around the Philly. If you buy food at minimum of $10, make sure you have the vendor to validate parking ticket so you will pay $5 up to 2 hours at the parking garage across RTM. I certainly will not go back here. There are other options.

Super busy market. They've got meats, produce, deserts, coffee, and lunches made to order. If you plan to eat here, have one from your group jump on the first open table and hold onto it. Restaurants really crank the food out quickly, though prices are up a few dollars above a similar place outside the market. Worth popping in for a stroll, with great people watching.

I’d go here if you’re looking for food (and quite the variety). We went on a holiday weekend though and it was VERY crowded. Something tells me it is like that every weekend. We had to stand to wait for a table to open up to eat. But overall worth it.

My local Philly friends took me. If you want to try some a little of everything the city offers food wise, come here, It's convenient, stop in while walking around the city to have a snack or lunch and head back out to enjoy the sites. We all got something different and shared.

It’s a great place to kill some time indoors or if no one in your group can agree on what to have for lunch, but it was a bit too much of a walk from Independence Mall for a food court experience. At least most of the restaurant/shops were open, which I cannot say the same for other food court type places during this “season” of Covid. Everyone was wearing masks, but it’s almost impossible to socially distance.

This is such a wonderful indoor market. We went here for breakfast and wish we could've gone for lunch too. It seems that every food under the sun is here--cheeses, special coffees, cheese steaks, po'boys....you name it. There are homemade donuts, hand rolled, and the line goes on and on. On Sunday about half of the vendors aren't there (Pennsylvania Dutch I think) but there's still plenty open. No donuts on Sunday, however, which is why the line's so long on Saturday.

This place is shut down on Sundays so make sure you don't come on Sundays.

When I come here for a meal, my problem is not I can't find anything to eat. My problem becomes what should I eat with only so much room in my stomach -- especially when portion here usually is so large that lasts for two meals for a 5'8'' 160# male who eats sensibly.

A wonderful market from flowers to places to eat and drink. Reading Terminal Market is located at the old train stop. According to the history, it was originally open in 1893 under the train shed and then moved indoor. It is currently is part of the city convention Center with all kinds of goodies that visitors should spend sometime to enjoy the market atmosphere here. It is across the street from the Convention Center and a couple blocks from the City Hall. Great place to spend time during your visit to Philadelphia.
