A step back in time

This ranch is in a remote section of Mammoth with no other buildings around for miles. We traveled a mile down a well kept gravel road to arrive at a charming ranch. It is not a commercialized Disney experience with amenities. The focus is on the animals and the natural environment. Had a lovely and relaxing 2 hour ride through a stunning canyon. Staff was professional and knowledgeable. It’s a place to be mellow, connect with nature and one another. There are a couple of picnic tables on the property and if I went there again I would bring a lunch( need to store in vehicle or office) to enjoy there afterwards. I highly recommend this experience.

Highly recommend. Friendly staff, well cared for horses and mules, and spectacular location. We did the half day and loved every minute!

Fun, safe, beautiful!

Friendly, professional staff. Three of us went on an hour long ride. My two kids (11, 8) had a wonderful time, and I felt that the staff were very attentive to safety protocols. The kids kept asking if we could do it again the next day! We will surely be back for another ride!

We had a great time with an experienced and helpful guide. Scenery was amazing and mules were cooperative, even with our less experience riders :) We enjoyed the 2 hour trail ride, which was uncrowded and mostly along a beautiful creek. Cost was reasonable for the experience, too.

ALABAMA HILLS WINTER RIDE An Interesting Tour, Exceptional Photo Opportunities, Very Nice Time
Nov 2020
My husband and I took the mule ride in the Alabama Hills in early November. We toured the Alabama Hills in the shadow of Mt Whitney. We'd hiked to the arches so our ride took us to the surrounding area weaving in and out of the large rock formations. Jennifer discussed everything from the geology of the area to the movies filmed in the Hills to the management of this National Scenic Area. She readily answered the questions we had. Jennifer grew up in the area and has a deep and interesting knowledge on everything related to the Alabama Hills. We got to be in the exact spot where particular movies were filmed, where famous western actors stood with their horses, saw where famous shots in movies were filmed and got to hear some unpublished stories about happenings during the old movie filming days. We could stop whenever we wanted for a water or photo break - both the rock formations and Mt Whitney area provided incredible photo opportunities. Neither my husband nor I are particularly spry any more. Jennifer nicely accomodated our activity level. We had a great day and enjoyed all of it. I rated the "exciting and thrill-seeking experience" below as not sure because some people would say yes. If you have riding experience, you're there for the scenery and interesting history. If you haven't ridden, it's a great place to get your feet wet as the terrain is gentle.

Fantastic place, great people

We had a fantastic experience with these legends of mule packing. We had filled out our forms, showed up on time and tried to do more listening than talking. This place isn’t a carnival or a circus with donkeys. This is a working facility with professionals who know their stuff.

Horrible woman!

Horrible woman!
We arrived expecting to have a nice day with our three kids. We arrived at our scheduled time, filled out the paperwork, paid and waited to be called to get our horses.
All of the sudden, the owner of the place arrived very upset. Apparently we forgot to sign one of the waivers (we filled out 4 and missed one by mistake). She started yelling that she refuses to take us out on the trip because according to her we were lying about our daughter's age. We tried to explain to her very calmly that it was an innocent mistake but she was so angry she was refusing to listen to us. She literally kicked us out, embarrassing us in front of the other guests!

This women should not run a business or interact with costumers.
I have never ever in my entire life felt so humiliated, she lied and yelled and embarrassed us without even blinking!
Our kids didn't understand what was going on and got so scared by her, we had to rash them out while trying to calm them down and protect them from her rage.
For your sake and your children sake, don't come near this place

The facts remain the same as they did in your previous 2 reviews. Now you are distorting your own information. We have the release form, facts are facts here. The Sheriff's department has the facts as well including the release forms that were not filled out. You had made no payment, you had done nothing other than fill out the paperwork partially and inconvenienced an entire ride of other guests. The yelling came from you and your husband and no amount of trying to appease your aggrieved behavior was effective. You were a dangerous element in our situation. Your husband would not listen or engage other than to yell. You arrived later (later yet than he did) and added loud egregious behavior. Its unfortunate for your children. Today we had several young riders who rode for the first time and had wonderful experiences. It's too bad you denied your children such an experience. For the facts see reviews from Eliy749 and Shmantul. Apparently now you are opening new accounts to leave slanderous materials.

a nightmare experience

We arrived on time ( 30 min before the ride).we filled the paperwork and picked up some water from our car. upon coming back the owner was very disrespectful to us and started yelling at us that we were late...telling us that we can only do the one hour ride. Apparently they overbooked and could not accommodate us in the 2 hour trip. Instead of apologizing for overbooking the owner blamed us for being late. Its very unfortunate that they overbook their trips and then cancell on customers at the site. There are so many great experiences we had with other companies.
Please don't risk your valuable time with this operator, she does not deserve to stay in business.

Here are the facts: According to our wranglers and staff, you arrived shortly after 1 p.m. One of our wranglers gave you our registration forms and waivers to fill out at which time you left, taking the forms and clipboards back to our parking lot You were gone for quite some time, causing our wrangler who was in charge of signing you in, quite a bit of frustration and uneasiness. She reported this to me, the owner. There were 7 other riders on the ride, which leaves at 1:30 p.m. When you finally re-appeared, it was slightly after 1:30 and all other riders had signed in, been given helmets & saddle bags for their items, paid their bills and received the 5-minute instructional speech. When you casually arrived with 1 adult and 2 children (1 child and 1 adult were still not in place), the other riders were already ready to be mounted on their saddle animals. You still required 10 -15 minutes of preparation to reach that point. An attempt was made to hurry you along to finish the check-in process as our wranglers had grown very frustrated with you and no longer felt comfortable dealing with you. Further, you had not fully filled out the forms, apparently refusing to put the ages of your 2 youngest children on the form. Since you signed it, we suspected that you did not want sign a document that contained untrue statements concerning the age of your children. The 2 smallest children were clearly not 10 and our wranglers were concerned that you would cause them additional stress by insisting 2 children under our age limit be on a 2-hour ride. If this was the case, you clearly were endangering your own children as we have an age limit on the 2-hour ride for a reason. At these times it is absolutely necessary to keep protocol and risk management in the forefront and your lateness coupled your lack of clarity regarding your children’s age and with your attitude of refusing to follow guidelines, was placing our other guests, employees and our horses & mules at risk due to the lack of awareness or care you exhibited. After attempting to hurry you along to join the group, you not only resisted but became agitated. At this point, you were asked to be calm and wait until the ride left and you would be assisted directly. You became more agitated. At this time, you were asked to remain calm again and your family would be treated to a 1-hour ride after the 1:30 2-hour ride left. You became more agitated and louder, causing more disturbance to other guests, to our wranglers and to our horses & mules. After 2 minutes of your loud agitated behavior, coupled with the arrival of your wife and another child, you spoke loudly and angrily. It was not possible to tell what your conversation was about as you spoke in another language. At this point, you were asked to be calm or to leave immediately. You were distracting the other guests who had complied appropriately with all the protocols; you were creating a disruption that was elevating the level of nervousness of the horses, mules and wranglers. A point of fact: you were endangering everyone on the facility at that point. You continued to escalate your anger, and level of shouting. One more time you were asked to leave. You refused at which point it was noted you would need to leave in 1 minute or the County Sheriff would be notified. You still were shouting and refused to leave. The demand was repeated: leave in 1 minute or the Sheriff would be called. Finally, after 2 full minutes you slowly walked out of the yard towards the parking lot. You still did not leave. At that time, your vehicle make, model and license were recorded and the Sheriff was called. After a full 5 minutes of waiting in our parking lot you finally pulled away. All the other parties on the 1:30 trail ride noted after their ride they were appreciative of the fact that you were required to leave since you were affecting everyone’s experience negatively. It should finally be noted that you were offered several options, including a 1-hour trail ride which would have greatly inconvenienced our operation – but it was offered for your children. You refused that option, thereby fully being responsible for the negative experience your children endured. Your belligerence and escalation of shouting is entirely the reason for the consequences you experienced. Finally, our business is doing extremely well, your negative experience is entirely of your own making and is indicative of your failure to be an agreeable and reasonable visitor/tourist.

Crazy owner!
Aug 2020 • Family
The worst customer service we ever experienced! The owner called the sheriff on us!
We arrived at 1 o'clock, at the preset time just as we were asked to. A nice young lady asked us to fill out forms, we told her that our kids are changing clothes and we will be back. She said no problem, didn't tell us to hurry up or anything. We changed cloths and arrived at 1:15 (the trip was scheduled for 1:30). The owner immediately started attacking us by saying that we are late and that she will not take us to the two hours trip but only to the one hour trip. We tried to explain that we were there on time, she didn't care. We decided to leave and not give her any business. My husband told her that it sucks and that we will make sure to leave her bad reviews. At that point she became very angry and told us that we had one minute to leave and if not she will call the sheriff. Since we didn't come to fight with anyone we left. She followed us and took our license plate number. As we drove away the the sheriff arrived and pulled us over. The owner complained that we refused to leave, which was a complete lie! Crazy people should not get any business. We had three young kids with us that didn't understand why we are not going on the trip and then were terrified to realize that we are being pulled off by the sherif.
Please don't encourage that behavior by giving business to that rude and obnoxious owner

Beware of this disorganized, unreliable pack outfit!
Jul 2020
Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience with this outfit. We had a 2 day trip planned to Mammoth and the activity that we were most interested in was a horseback ride in the Sierras. When I called to schedule a half day ride (several weeks in advance), I was told they could not accommodate us on our selected day as they already had another group booked, but could book us on the day before, which we did. Less then a week before our reservation they called to cancel as there supposedly had been "an overbooking". They told us they could accommodate us on the day we had originally requested, but only for a 2 hr ride. We were disappointed as we had looked forward to the longer ride, but agreed. I was a bit concerned as we had originally been told that this date was already booked, but was assured it was open (this should have raised a red flag). On the day of the ride, we get up early to be there at 8 am for our scheduled ride. At 7:15 am, I get a call (surprise, surprise, should have known better), canceling our ride, now for the second time as "some of the staff were sick". I understand that staff may get sick and certainly now during the pandemic we don't want any interactions with people who are sick. However, you would think that if this indeed was the case, they would have a back-up plan. Given my prior interactions w this outfit, this was likely a made-up excuse as they probably had double booked us again. We were very disappointed to not get the horseback experience we had looked forward to, as this was our last day in Mammoth and the other pack outfits were fully booked.
