The staff was very friendly, knowledgable, and acoomodating. I reserved a next day wilderness permit with no problems. The shop provides local gifts, maps, books, novelties, etc. They rent bear canisters if you need one for your trip. Great place to inquire information about Mammoth.

We got some advice on where to find fall color when we went there. I do think the advice was not as detailed as it could have been. When we there we were able to give some advice that the staff did not have information on.

We would have missed a few opportunities if we had not stopped in and asked questions. Such as the fall colors around the lake area, devils post pile.

We got useful assistance here. One can get maps, hike info, accommodation info etc here. The site is signposted Ranger Station just when the divided road is joined and becomes an undivided road.

When visiting the Mammoth Lakes basin area you have to stop by the visitor center. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Let them know what you plan on doing and they have numerous suggestions to make your visit fun and your use of time efficient.

We have found over the years that the welcome center is a wealth of GREAT INFORMATION, especially when you are unfamiliar with an area. They have helped with maps for hikes and overall information about the area. The employees are enthusiastic and do their best to answer your questions. It is also a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs!
