We have found over the years that the welcome center is a wealth of GREAT INFORMATION, especially when you are unfamiliar with an area. They have helped with maps for hikes and overall information about the area. The employees are enthusiastic and do their best to answer your questions. It is also a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs!

A USFS wilderness permit desk and information desk, both staffed with local experts, are on hand and one of the best stocked book stores and Sierra gift stores anywhere in the Sierra. I bought a book on Sierra tree... More
