Don't forget to take water with you

We had the walk in 2005 and it was really hot and sunny (as it is almost always in Death Valley). We didn't take any water with us and didn't have hats on. Not a great idea. Had a... read more

We had the walk in 2005 and it was really hot and sunny (as it is almost always in Death Valley). We didn't take any water with us and didn't have hats on. Not a great idea. Had a heat stroke. So don't forget to take water with you. Last time we didn't take the hike.

This is a good hike for the mature walkers and those with short legs. We walked in the early morning hours when there was plenty of shade from the cliffs. The shade and the cool breeze made for a very pleasant hike into and out of the canyon, which is a little over a mile in one direction. Most of... More

This is a walk up a canyon that changes open to narrow and has very nice erosion features on sides. the light gives it a nice mellow color that is golden/tan depending on point of view. It is very close to Furnace Creek and has a Ranger tour in morning I think. By afternoon on an ordinary day the lot... More

This was a good hike uphill. It seemed longer than the sign stated. The Canyon walls have a more tan color but I guess golden is a more attractive name. At the top the hike finally gets interesting crawling through tight spaces and over large rocks to get to the red cathedral. Once there keep climbing up to get a... More

Bring water and include the Red Cathedral if you're up to the tricky climb. The Canyon itself is an easy walk. The ranger talk is interesting about the geology and history.

Starts as an easy hike but can be extended with connecting trails that are not as easy. walking through this canyon is most scenic & amazing but can get busy with other tourists. It's also a great attraction because its close to the Furnace Creek Visitors Center and also enroute to t other major attractions including Badwater. Be aware that... More

This is the most popular hike in Death Valley, and it's easy to see why. Beautiful approach and a fairly short, easy hike. Golden Canyon, by itself, is 1.5 miles each way. However, I highly recommend continuing on to do the full Gower Gulch Loop (4.3 miles). You have a steep elevation gain right after Golden Canyon ends, but the... More

This old man with a cane spent 45 minutes each way. Climb is 500+ feet, with a few minor challenges. Scenery is great.

Hiking through the Golden Canyon is fantastic. The canyon is beautiful and you can climb through lots of trail offshoots (rangers told us that). We had lots of fun exploring around the area. The hike is very easy. There is one spot near the entrance that's a tiny bit more challenging, but once you get over that it is flat... More

Easy parking to walk the canyon. Raining do not go because of flash floods. Great hike for young adults, use care and watch your time to make sure you are back to your vehicle before dusk, this is a 3 mile hike. Bathrooms in parking lot to include information on the hike. Us old folks only went a little way.
