There is an improbable, but true story of a New York dancer captivated by a building in the desert. She renovated the building and made it her personal performance space, painting her audience on the walls.

We had the pleasure of watching Jenna McClintock perform ballet at this unique and beautiful opera house near Death Valley. She was awesome and is taking up for the owner Marta Beckett. The paintings in the opera house were super!

The Opera House, while it may or may not be one of a kind, is certainly unique. There was no performance while we were there, but we did take the tour, and were amazed at what had been wrought. The amount of work which went into preparing the place for the ballets can only be imagined, but the loving effort... More

Death Valley Junction is almost a ghost town, with derelict buildings remaining from earlier mining days. Five people live there now and maintain an incredible tradition, started by dancer/artist Marta Becket 50 years ago, and now continued by Jenna McClintock. Both were professional dancers, in NY and Oakland. Marta created the Amargosa Opera House from sheer will, cleaning and painting... More

This was a really fun stop on the way thru the Death Valley area. It tells the story of the trials and successes of ballerina, Marta Beckett. The documentary shown is quite long, but is an absolute must if you want to hear the story from Marta herself. I was fascinated by her story & am anxious to read the... More

Beautiful ballet was the last thing we expected in a ghost town, but one of the highlights of our trip. If life is art, there are few more compelling examples than the night life at Amargosa Opera House. Jenna McClintock's mesmerizing dances, amid stunning murals by the original dancer there, Marta Becket, are more than worth the price of admission.... More

We loved stopping by Death Valley Junction on our way to the National Park. Great grist for photos...especially on antique or sepia tone settings. Can you believe more than 300 folks lived out here in the middle of no where? Wow!

When we came by going into the park thought this was a ghost town and not open for business. Stopped on way home and had an interesting visit. Lots of intriguing history provided by our young tour guide. They have a huge task ahead of them in restoring this theater and motel but there seems to be a great desire... More

This little known opera house in near Death Valley Junction and well worth stopping to take a tour, or enjoy a performance. The opera house is small and has an interesting story behind it. The scenery is hand painted, the audience is too. A sight to behold.
