Possible a great little place full of character which we would enjoyed a lot more if we where not more concerned for our safety on getting back down again... This trip should be only attempted by anyone with a fear of heights and in a proper 4x4...Not in a hired car which we did. The road starts of fun, but... More

We were a four jeep convoy and took the Swansea Grade to the Salt Trams and beyond to Cerro Gordo. What a fun and challenging route full of views and history along the way. As we were leaving Cerro Gordo, one of the jeeps suffered a stick to the rear tire necessitating a tire change in the field, just a... More

Robert has a passion for preservation and gave a wonderful tour and insight into the old mining community. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the mining aspects while I was taken by the sweeping views of the lake, Mt. Williamson and Mt. Whitney. Beware faint of heart, it's a gravel road with heart stopping twists a mile up the mountain and a... More

I was out there last summer, with a group of friends from a local rockhounding club. It was a really neat place to visit, and I'd like to return someday. I traveled in my F250 4WD, with a friend, and our three kids (ages 8-12 at the time). The road was a bit nerve-wracking and required a great deal of... More

I've been to this 8,000 ft living ghost town before, but the current caretaker Bobby is a wealth of information I never knew. He is the town caretaker, miner and the only certified explosive man in the area. He has personally explored 20 miles of the 37 miles of tunnels under Cerro Gordo. Visit? Donate well for your time. Your... More

This is a great ghost town. last time I was there you could get a tour for a fee. They have been restoring the old buildings, great to see old stuff like this taken care of and not distroyed. This is a real part of mining history.
