The NPS offers an interesting educational experience with a video, museum, interactive exhibits, and knowledgeable staff who perform demonstrations.....for free! Well, this is your tax money at work but it seems worth it in this case.

Kids can get the Junior Ranger activity booklet from the Visitor Center between 9-5 daily. To earn a free Junior Ranger Badge, kids have to complete six activites as well as a park map activity. Kids get a free book with a pencil and compass to help them complete the activities.

Small National Park on the Manatee River. Nice loop trail to hike with kids and dogs. All ages can do this hike as it's an easy walk through the mangroves and along the shore. They have a small visitor's center and a recreated village hut for the Natives likely present during DeSoto's landing. The Park also has cool events. Best... More

This is a hidden treasure. The trails are wonderful and informative. Little sandy places to rest or take a dip in the water. A great place to take in nature and enjoy the fresh sea breeze.

Nice little hidden NPS site. I thought that it was great the way that this bit of history was not sugar coated. It was about a 45 minute drive from where we were staying on the beach and well worth it. Rangers and volunteers were super friendly.

We found this place almost by accident. You kindof have to look for it. The park is right on the Manatee river, and the views are great. There is a small history center, but the nature trail through the mangroves takes it.

This place takes you back in time. This place has lots things aroun that fills you in on the history of the area. There at time live demonstrations how the people fished and hunted many years ago. This place will not take longer then 2 hours to see.

We had a nice day at the memorial and spent an hour listening to the history of DeSoto in Florida. There is also a nice beach to stroll on when you're done.
