I went for a dive with this shop on 7/25 after the area had some much needed rain recently. The divemaster was helpful and I knew up front that the conditions were not optimal, but I wanted to keep current since I do not get the chance to dive often.

Regarding the previous reveiw, the visbility when I went was pretty good in the shallow water (~ 10') and quickly deteriorated as soon as we went to around 20'. I believe the divemaster was doing the right thing by keeping you in the shallow water when the vis is poor. A woman who was in our group and had recently received her certification became disoriented and nearly got into trouble when she could not see well. The divemaster Ben did a good job of calming her and getting her back on track.

$300 for a family of 4 is normal pricing for a trip like that, considering that it costs about $35/person to rent equipment. All in all, I thought that was a pretty good shop. Don't take the crummy conditions out on the operator.

I paid over 300$ to the dive shop operater to take my family on a shallow scuba tour of a shipwreck located in 20ft. of water across from the operators' shop. What I got in exchange was a short intro to scuba diving, and a scuba swim in 10ft of water.
The divemaster told me the visibility was bad, so "it wouldnt have been worth it." I was told later that I was basically ripped off after describing the weather, water behavior and visibility to a fellow Chicago firefirefighter on the dept. scuba squad.
I now have my certification and have went diving through other shops and guides and nobody was as poor as these people. They are the worst out of anyone I have done business with. New divers dont be fooled by their web page boasts!!! 0/5.

The operator of the dive shop is an honest person, he and his wife go out of thier way to NOT rip anyone off! The sugar barge is a Florida Gulf dive spot that is now mostly under sand from storms, this changes just as the sand deposits on the beaches change. Also the water off the beaches can become very cloudy when a storm or a front moves through, it takes days of calm weather to clear up enough to dive. I think the dive shop was judged unfairly. They have great prices, will not try to sell you something you dont need, plan GREAT inexpensive trips and will answer any questions honestly. I dive, fish as well as live on this island and have yet to find another dive shop around here that offers what SeaTrek does.
