As the largest natural and cultural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast, the South Florida Museum offers engaging exhibits as well as educational programs that interpret the scientific and cultural knowledge of Florida, the world and our universe. In addition to permanent exhibits, the Museum features a constantly changing lineup of temporary exhibitions -- offering something new to discover with each visit. The Museum includes the all-digital Bishop Planetarium Theater and the Parker Manatee Aquarium. Celebrating its 50th anniversary year, the Bishop Planetarium is the Gulf Coast's premier astronomy education facility, outfitted with a state-of-the-art Planetarium and projection system with stunning multimedia capabilities. The Parker Manatee Aquarium is home to Snooty™, Manatee County's official mascot and the oldest known manatee in the world, as certified by Guinness World Records. Snooty shares his Aquarium pool with other manatees that have been injured or orphaned and are being rehabilitated for return to the wild as part of the Manatee Rehabilitation and Release Partnership.

What a pleasant surprise it was to see this beautiful planetarium, aquarium and Florida nature museum right in my backyard! It's an easy-to-navigate museum with so much to see and learn. I can't wait to go back. Lots of cool fossils and extinct animal exhibits.

There are some unique displays but overall it seems cramped. Hard to get around and signage is poor. Parking is okay but finding this place can be confusing (A Bradenton issue).

We've enjoyed the museum and it's history. It's amazing to see Snooty in his home and hear of his story. Great place for an afternoon with children.

On our visit to the museum I must say enough with the Manatees. It was a nice grounds area, loved the planetarium and the staff was very friendly and helpful. But the fact that the manatees were the star of the show has me puzzled....More

One of my favorite places to go in Bradenton. Historic exhibitions and displays, art, and of course Snooty. If you don't know Snooty be sure to Google him. Includes the amazing planetarium with its shows for all ages.

No. There are no restaurants onsite, but many good ones within an easy walk (3-4 blocks). Pier 22 and o'Bricks are two of my favorites. Enjoy!
