Our Nepali Grad Student meets Dayton’s LiNK

Tis a Grand day.

Today my wife has arranged to collect our Home Hosted University Grad Students to experience Dayton’s 2nd Street Public Market and LiNK has a substation at this location.

We observe that the substation at Dayton’s 2nd Street Public Market is very active today.

Young men and women are parking LiNK bikes and riding off on LiNK Bikes.

The three-speed, green Trek brand bikes have been active for the past two years.

There will be stations in Wright Dunbar, the Central Business District, McPherson Town, the Oregon District, St. Ann’s Hill, Dayton’s 2nd Street Public Market, and South Park.

We certainly recommend LiNK.

We picked up bikes after lunch to ride down to The riverfront and downtown with out of area family. Problems: it was inconvenient to get more than one bike on a credit card; the bikes are heavy, and I had difficulty managing mine, but I am not a good rider; it required a check in every 30 minutes at a kiosk to avoid a penalty fee, very inconvenient, although the kiosks are well located in the diwntown area and we managed ok. Good tires and brakes, comfortable seat.

Love the green bikes. Very easy to access and ride. Dayton is a fairly flat city, so you don't have to worry about hill climbing. Perfect for getting to and from festivals downtown.

Link offers a systems of conveniently located bike share stations that stock well-maintained bicycles. For a low yearly fee you have access to a fleet of bikes 24/7. The stations are located near popular attractions and are free to members for 30 minute trips.

I'm so happy to see the Link stations all over town. The bikes are simple, easy to understand, but a little heavy. Renting my first bike without a membership was somewhat confusing, but after I joined and received my member card, the process became a breeze. Membership is a good value, especially for events where you can park far away, avoid parking fees, then ride the Link bike right up to the event. I'd like to see a brighter headlight under the baskets.

Since I work downtown and have a Link rack close by, I decided to give it a try. At around $50 for the year, it seemed like a safe investment. After using it a lot this summer, I am hooked and will re-up next year. It is great for getting around town at lunch. They keep the bikes in great condition and it is generally very easy to find a bike or a rack. Good job by the city on keeping this up and running, My only suggestion is to allow a bike to be out for an hour without docking. This would allow for a nice ride along the river or lunch, without having to find a Link rack.
