We’ve been visiting this park occasionally to hike for almost twenty years, and thought we’d seen everything here, but a few days ago we eschewed the usual starting point near the nature center due to the large crowds. So we parked at the stables and headed off down a closed road to the Ottawa Point picnic area, previously unknown to us. Past the picnic area we found ourselves on a segment of the Buckeye Trail that passes a camping area. It was magical in the early ( for Cleveland) Spring, with most trees still relatively unencumbered with view-blocking leaves, but with bright green foliage already visible on the gorge floors far below. The trail winds along an increasingly narrow ridge before taking a dramatic dip down into the valley. We had to cut our hike short at that point, but there is undoubtedly more and we shall return.

Although we're hikers, we definitely saw strollers, dog walkers and trail runners enjoying themselves. There are also Bridle Trails, so if you're walking on those, you're apt to meet up with a rider or two, as well. Signage is a bit confusing, so I highly recommend stopping at the Nature Center and getting a map, or printing one out before you go as it's easy to get yourself turned around. Ample picnic spots and various parking areas as well, so if you're meeting someone make sure you both know EXACTLY where you are meeting!

Another beautiful park that makes up Cleveland's famous Emerald Necklace. Near the entrance is a great stream to play in and climb on the rocks. There are vast open fields to roam and big old trees to have a fall picnic under.

This is an area with some nice views and interesting geology. The trails are well maintained but could have better signage. There were several intersections w/o any markings. If you're not familiar with the area (like us) it was quite confusing. There's a very nice visitor center with helpful folks which made it easier. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area.

This place is right across the street from cuyahoga valley national park, across from station road bridge. This part does not seem to be promoted enough for people who are visiting the national park, but Cleveland metro parks are impressive. Deer lick cave trail is a nice little adventure and you can just walk down to the cave itself. The view at Chippewa creek gorge is a must and also requires no real walking if you just want to observe the overlook. Park appeared to be clean, worth spending some time and seeing some of the sights if in the area. Cleveland metro parks are free.

Cuyahoga Valley NP is supplemented by two Cleveland metro parks and Brecksville Reservation is the one on the western side. The park is primarily a series of gorges that take rain water to the Cuyahoga River. However, one of the most impressive parts of the park is that in the Brecksville Reservation the plateau and reservation almost makes the Cuyahoga River. The span over the river is narrow enough for a bridge. While on the bridge you get great views, under the bridge the view of the bridge are the attraction. Again great addition to the national park.

This place has so many trails that it is difficult to know where to begin! But because I love water I started with the Hemlock Trail near Chippewa Creek at the Gorge Overlook. The trail through the evergreens is so peaceful!

Later, I walked over the Station Road Bridge on the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath which is just east of this reservation. At the far end of the parking lot, you can see where the Chippewa Creek enters the Cuyahoga River.

After lunch at the Plateau Picnic Area, I decided to explore My Mountain Overlook on Salamander Creek. It just overlooked the park which was nice, but I was hoping for something more. If you are short on time, OK to skip this overlook.

Then, I cheated and drove to Deer Lick Cave on the south side of the reservation rather than hiking the trail.

I noticed that a paved trail meanders through the park.

I visited Brecksville Reservation as part of my trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I would have liked to hike the Buckeye Trail through this reservation. Next visit, I want to explore the new Chippewa Creek trail which I could not find on this trip - it was not yet on the map and the park personnel could not tell me how to get there.

The park is beautiful, and as many other reviews state, has many varieties of activities and trails. Walking the park would be my first choice. There is also horse back riding available. But the park joins up with other metro parks to the northwest and there are tons of hefty hills to negotiate. It is paved and fabulous, but you need to be in shape!
There are areas that can and do accommodate wheelchairs like visiting the nature center or wheeling along on some of the flat and paved trails.
A real gem. Don’t miss it!

Enjoy hiking and exploring the area taking pictures of the wild flowers and marsh. Regular visitor living nearby the metro park system. A great place to relax and be surrounded by nature.

Great for walks and piece of mind! Plus there is a great golf course next to and part of the park itself.
