I just used the campground as a highway stop over during Covid. The information that is not online - 1. They lock the gate 10pm so dont book for late arrival unless they provide access code (and the gate is over a mile from campground). Bathrooms are private personal rooms with toilet sink and shower felt very Covid safe. Lots of staff (3 sets of management) so lots of rules but felt very safe and watched over. $5 parking pass they ask you to pay for after you book online (for which they lose 1 star). I wouldnt mind really but it should be charged up front. Pay laundry in bath house. Very clean.

BEAUTIFUL state park. Saw an armadillo! and other wildlife. Large RV sites with hook ups. Nice sized cottages to stay in as well as camping. Beautiful views. We will be making reservations to stay here in future.

We stayed just outside the park near the boat ramp. Quiet, not congested. I have never seen a state park like this! There are turtles walking around. The rangers are friendly. It’s clean. Mini golf was closed. If you have a boat to launch or want to kayak out in the river, looks beautiful and likely easier to catch fish. There is a fish cleaning station at the dock. At high tide the dock, even if casting isn’t a great place to fish. We lost two lines in the water as they got stuck. We are amateurs but there were others who appeared more skilled and didn’t stay long.

I believe we lucked up on a possible cancellation as we did not book beautiful site #12 for 4 nights until about 3 weeks ago. It is one of only 5-6 directly on the river. Absolutely beautiful. Keep in mind this was during the COVID Outbreak so the visitor center, Nature center, mini golf, store were closed but we walked some beautiful trails and so enjoyed the outdoors. Bugs love me and the occasional stinging gnats did show up. Although the water pressure in the showers could be greatly improved you will be hard-pressed to find cleaner bathrooms in any park! We spoke with several volunteers who were doing a fabulous job. We saw gophers, skinks, armadillos, an occasional harmless snake and countless squirrels and birds. We are from Jacksonville and we’re so excited to find such a beautiful place less than an hour from our driveway. To call it a hidden gem is an understatement. p.s. A new Dollar General had just opened mid April within about 3 miles of the park. They have ice, etc.

I had been here as a teenager with family years ago, was anxious to see it again. Absolutely beautiful. Slips are large and spacious with privacy between most. Many are FHU meaning sewer also. Lots of trails, golf cart friendly, beautiful sunset on rivers edge. Definitely one of my favorites. Travel trailer, 40ft, 3 slides.
