We booked the river float down through Ruby-Horsethief canyon with Rimrock Adventures and had an awesome time! Our guide was Josh and he was fantastic! He was incredibly knowledgeable about Grand Junction, Colorado and the Colorado river and gave us many fun and interesting stories during our float. He also did an excellent job of explaining the geology and topology of the area which was very interesting.

The trip itself was relaxing and beautiful with giant desert cliff faces on both both sides of the river. We saw eagles, coyotes and a few bighorn sheep during our trip as well. We took this trip in September so the river was very mellow and this truly was a "float", not a raft trip. Josh did the work in paddling along the river and when the river got really slow he fired up a small engine to motor us along a little faster so that we made it back home on time. I personally would've preferred some more excitement (bigger rapids, helping paddle, etc.), or to not have to use the engine, but I understand that Rimrock can't control the flowrate of the river, I'm sure this trip in the Spring time is a blast.

We stopped at the black rocks section of the river for lunch (included in price). It was a good spread of sandwiches with all the toppings you'd want, veggies, chips, drinks...not a "gourmet" lunch, but I was very pleased with the options available. We were able to swim and do some cliff jumping after lunch, Josh showed us a few spots and it was awesome!

Overall, I'd say that if you want to get up close and personal with the Colorado river and the beautiful natural landscape that Grand Junction has to offer, Josh and Rimrock Adventures are the way to go!

Three of us had a wonderful trip with Nick our guide and oarsman extraordinaire. The company was well organized and well priced; we departed promptly and launched easily. All we 3 had to do was sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery, which was around every bend in the river. Nick was a terrific guide and even prepared us a great “Colorado” lunch. He even put up a sunshade for the zodiac as the sun got relentless in mid afternoon. It was exactly what we had wanted from the trip. Thank you!

We recently did a one-hour "Red Rock" dude ride at Rimrock and our family really enjoyed the experience. Leader Jade did a great job engaging our 8-year old in conversation and had him sitting on the second horse so she could keep an eye on him and remind him when to adjust his position in the saddle. She also took great photos of our group when we paused to rest the horses at the mid-point of the ride. Thanks Jade!

We took the all day raft trip with Steve as our guide. There we’re only the four of us (2 adults and our two teenaged grandkids) on the adventure. And what an adventure it was! It truly could not have been better. Steve was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and a great companion. We learned so much about the area while floating or swimming down the beautiful and historic Colorado River. Safety was also number 1 with Steve. Amazing lunch provided at a beautiful spot to rest, jump in the river or hike to some old Native people sites. I would recommend this company for any river experiences.

Great experience if you are looking for a relaxed, low key float. We were able to call in the morning and get booked same day for 3hr float. Everyone there was so friendly and nice. Mason was our guide for the float and pretty awesome. Recommend if you are in the grand junction area. We came across cows at water, bald eagle and even an otter!

We rented a raft from Rimrock, and also had them shuttle one of our cars to Westwater. I can't say enough about their employees. From the office where we checked in, to the orientation of the boat, and then when we got out at the end. We were taking the boat back ourselves but the Rimrock employees that were there picking up other boats couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.
The raft came with everything we needed and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. It is amazing how much the people can make or break your experience, and even the folks that were checking in the equipment at the end were super friendly and helpful, even though they were out in 95 degree heat washing boats and putting equipment away.

Great rafting trip. We did the guided 90 minute trip. It is perfect for little kids (we had a four year old) or others who don't want to be on the raft for too long. It was a float, no chance of falling out.

We took the one hour trail ride. Myself and 10 year old daughter joined by a couple in their 20's (neither had been on a horse before). The guide was very friendly and the horses very mild mannered. Rimrock Adventures is located directly across from public lands which are part of the Colorado National Monument so we mounted the horses and crossed one road and we took a gentle hour long trail ride. It is an easy way to get out on horseback in the Colorado National Monument area. Fun and enjoyable experience. The price was fine, we paid $60 for the 2 of us and then gave our guide a tip in addition. I had asked about the ride in the Book Cliffs wild horse preserve but you need a minimum of 4 to take that trip. The price point for the wild horse preserve ride is much higher because they have to transport the horses to the offsite location. Rimrock also offers rafting adventures. If you are looking for more dramtic views and you have the time you may want to try one of the longer rides offered into the canyons.

Practically the whole darned thing was fun -- educational -- experiences to relish (and some to relax through) -- anyhow: our daughter and husband and our two grandchildren were coming to visit us (we live in G.J. and they, in Oregon) -- so we (wife & I) figured let's do a whole-day adventure somewhere while they're here.

We signed up for the DAY-LONG TRIP FROM LOMA TO WESTWATER. STEVE (last name “Cook” but he might have been kidding, as he was preparing lunch when he told us that) was our guide and we not merely-highly recommend him, we recommend him quite highly.

Might have been an abnormal day, as everything went smoothly – but that’s probably because RimRock Adv plans on that, and makes that sort of thing look easy. Steve told us the rules (had to tell Grandson #2 the rules more than once) – it was obvious SAFETY WAS PARAMOUNT – but “FUN” rated right up there as well (e.g., Steve wasn’t exactly adamant, but insisted everyone of us have the experience to be able to say we floated on the river from Colorado into Utah. So, mugwump ol’ me, I got in with everyone else (except Steve of course – someone had to be in the boat!) just short of the state line and got out some time afterward – so we all can say that, yes, we floated/swam/bobbed-along from one state to another.

Steve ensured that we all had some input as to some of the day’s activities – more swimming through rapids? Check. More for lunch – yeah, of course. Another interesting thing was that my two “kids” (daughter and her hubby) had geotechnical engineering degrees from Colo. Mines – and they and Steve conversed cognizantly (sp?) about the frequent weird and convoluted geology of what we were floating through. (I confessed to him that I had been a Petroleum Engineer, but after 6 years of retirement, had forgotten everything. Never-the-less, the geological insights and observations were quite interesting.

I hope my “kids” don’t read this – but grandchild #2 is quite-a-bit off in “his own world” (e.g., doesn’t listen too well; rules? They’re not for him; insisting on things going his own way, etc.) – and Steve not only was to whatever degree he had to be diplomatic about that, he don’t take no poo-poo from nobody, and grandchild #2 acquiesced to the rules as best he could. I’d recommend our guide for, in addition to “guiding” – guiding “problem kids.”

Did we tip enough? I don’t know – mere thanks may be enough sometimes – but his is a seasonal job and I suspect he doesn’t conduct dog-sledding in the snow experiences on the Mesa in the off-season.

RimRock Adventures not only conducts river-running and float-sojourns, but horse-back trips, a weekly rodeo (or two) and probably more and different outdoor experiences.

We chose a day of floating, and it was relaxing and so much fun! Our guides, Steve (call him Becky!) and Spencer were hilarious and so knowledgeable! And very serious about safety and treating the environment right (including where and where not to pee - and why). I'm not sure where they got such an amazing lunch spread, but it was perfect.. just a great day overall. Highly recommend for age 5+.
